It’s not too hard. You should NEVER swing at balls, ever. If the ump blows the call, then so be it. Belt didn’t look foolish, the ump did for blowing the call. Blown calls happen, weirdos want that to be part of game cause the human element is fun. But in the long run, Belt’s approach of not swinging at pitches out of the zone is the most productive way a hitter can operate. And it’s not “supposed” 2nd best hitter. It is fact, just look at his ballpark adjusted stats.

If the ump is calling it a strike (and he was the WHOLE game), you need to swing at it. As a hitter you’re supposed to get a feel for the strike zone that the ump is calling. That’s the human aspect of the game. If you don’t concede to what he’s calling a strike, that’s your fault. You better start swinging or you’re going to look really foolish all game. And he did look foolish. Look I’m not a Giants fan, I’m a Reds fan. But if I were a Giants fan, I’d be wondering why my supposed 2nd best hitter looked at a called strike 3 twice in the same night. That’s a problem. Joey will never look at 2 strike 3′s go by him. He’s too good of a hitter. Belt, on the other hand, didn’t adjust to the umps strike zone and got punished because of it apparently.

Both looking were balls way out of the zone according to pitch tracker. So Bochy and your answer: punish him for not swinging at balls. Belt is their second best hitter, not to mention one of their best fielders. Belt should be batting 1st, 2nd or 3rd, not on the bench. Joey Votto didn’t get a hit yesterday, guess you’d bench him too.

Giants fans can’t be happy to exchange Belt’s bat for Sanchez’. Though it will be hard for the Giants offense to be any worse than it has been in the first 3 games.
