Jokes aside, we all understand that what’s shown above is not an actual photo of Bryce Harper, right?

If it weren’t for the mole under his left eye, I wouldn’t think that the photo had any basis in reality. Obviously it’s been stretched or otherwise altered through an editing program like Photoshop or Phone Booth for Mac.

I mean, look at his left ear – that’s not Bryce Harper. You can’t tell me that this image was used without knowing what kind of comments it would receive. A simple Google image search should have stopped this stupid and reckless entry before it was posted.

tinted/colored lenses have been around for years… if they had any benefit, athletes would be using them by now (including those who don’t need vision correction).

The only benefit I’ve noticed is that I once saw a girl with bright, emerald-green eyes; after my heart skipped a beat I realized they had to be fake and lost interest.

It is ridiculous. He didn’t say it is disgraceful or an abomination.

He implied it is open to ridicule which is exactly what it is. Harper does it to stand out and get attention and channel the Ultimate Warrior. When people do things for attention, they do so knowing that it is ridiculous to the majority.

I remember a couple Twins trying them out a few years ago (Mauer was one). Apparently, it helps the seams of the ball stand out better to better determine the pitch type (among other things). Here’s a purveyor of various colored “sports” contact lenses:

My guess is that because he has fair eyes, the eye black alone wasn’t cutting it for reducing glare. Lenses in the red-orange family are pretty effective for that purpose. I don’t think he’s making a statement other than “I have trouble seeing in the sun.”
