This is why I think Rizzo is such a turd. He’s sitting on this whole “hey man, we’re good now” routine and he won’t just shut his smug fucking face for a second and take it like a man, letting his team do the walking on the field and showing people who the boss is if that is what he is so inclined to do.

It was chicken sh*t. Do you that that anonymous GM would have put his name behind that quote? Of course not. Its the scourge of the internet; say what ever you want to say behind a shield of anonymity and nobody knows the better. I’m glad Rizzo fired back; it was a gutless comment and an even more gutless “news story” from a weak reporter in Nightengale.

Please. Look at the Nats roster; there’s a lot more to it than those two guys, and almost the entire active roster was acquired or developed under Rizzo. Saying the Nats went from a 100-loss team to a 98-win team in 3 years because of two guys is pretty lazy analysis.

Rizzo is a decent GM. He’s made some decent moves but his going after said anonymous guy by saying they probably lost 120 games is B.S. TheNatinals aren’t too far removed from being big losers not to mention you don’t need to be a good GM to have Strasburg and Harper fall into your lap at the top of the draft.

I completely agree with you: the backlash would be endless. So why did the anonymous GM say something in the first place? That’s the part I don’t understand. Are there GMs sitting at home by the phone, waiting for someone to call just so they can anonymously rip another GM? It just doesn’t make sense.

Rizzo is correct that an unnamed GM shouldn’t be talking shit and hiding, but the “not in my neighborhood” tough guy routine is also a little on the lame side. Grow up Rizzo and act like an executive and not some douche hanging in an old man bar talking about everyone’s ass you’re gonna kick. Call out the unknown GM like an intelligent adult.

Not only that, but you never know where your next job will be. Say something like that, on the record, and it could make other teams’ ownership think twice about hiring you. Or someone from your staff. Plus, it puts way too much scrutiny on your team. Especially if your team is currently not in the playoffs.

You cant say some thing like that without anonymity, because in today’s media it would be played everywhere. It would be the new “feud” and would be played up forever by ESPN and every sports writer around. Ask the wrong question (Jeff Ireland) then your hated by all. Say the wrong thing then you might lose your job. I’m surprised to hear any manager or GM say anything but canned non-committal responses.
