Oakland led the AL with 1387 Ks. The Orioles were 3rd with 1315 and the Yankees were a distant 8th with 1176. Houston led the NL with 1365 and the Yankees would have ranked 14th over there. Of course, the postseason has taken them to new heights (or lows.)

Grandy had 3.9 oWAR, 6th in MLB among center fielders. Unless his defense is terrible, he’s hardly the problem, even with the low BA.

Thanks for the correction, in late Aug. Michael Kay, of the Yes network said they had more K’s than any AL team, the A’s must have passed them, but nothing to be proud of.

I have been saying Grandy must go for awhile now, not that he alone is the problem. BUT he is the poster child for the lack of timely hitting. What good are 43 bombs if they usually happen bases empty or when the Yankees are already up 12-2? A-rod of course is beyond OVERPAID, but there may be some hope if he gets in the cage and acknowledges he is no longer a power hitter. Granderson just gets worse. How much worse can it get than the bottom of the eighth, runners first and second no one out, need one run to get ahead and probably win the series, and three guys in succession FAIL!?

They led the AL in strikeouts, doesn’t it show? The Yankees can’t even spell timely hitting, it seems if they’re not hitting a few HR’s in a game, they’ll lose. Neither team can blame their pitching, but the K’s for the Yankees are horrendous. I’m a Yankee fan, but I won’t be surprised if the O’s win this. The Yankees have to make some moves in the off season, I’m sure Swisher will be history, but Arod? where do you hide him for the next five years? he’s no Derek Jeter.

He has somehow found a way to make strikeouts worse than they already are.

Looking at his splits for the season he literally goes into an 0-2 or 1-2 count around 50% of the time. In this series it has been almost exclusively 0-2 counts.

Over the season around 10% of his at-bats ended in 3 pitch K’s. This post-season it’s been around 25% of them.

He is just giving pitchers free, no stress, guaranteed outs.

He’s been as useful as a screen door on a submarine.
