Ya, the close up replay from directly in front of the pole (not the first close up from the side which did kinda show it change subtly) did kind of seem to just go straight by the pole but even that was inconclusive… either way no way conclusive enough to overturn any ruling on the field or consider it a “robbery”.

Smoltz is an idiot. No one was “fearing” Rivera in ’96 when he was the set-up man to Wetteland. In fact, when Rivera blew the game in ’97 against Alomar, there was a big todo about whether he could actually replace Wetteland.

I think the 2nd replay shows the angle of decent changing slightly, meaning it hit the pole, a Yankee usher said it barely hit the pole. But I don’t think they were robbed.
