My favorite team is any team playing NYY. But, c’mon… I hated seeing the photo of him on the ground grimacing in pain. Jeter IS Major League Baseball these days. He keeps his mouth shut and plays, hard, and with sustained excellence. One of the toughest outs around, especially with the game in the balance. If he’s not a UNANIMOUS first-ballot HOF’er, something is seriously wrong. Glad to hear it seems to be a straightforward injury and he’s expected back at full strength next year.

If this was Jeter’s last game, I salute him as one of the great Yankees. He has always been one helluva player, and a class act. He’s one of those players that you wish would never retire. Someday he will join the pantheon of Yankee greats.

I don’t respect the Yankees or their “hire the top mercenaries” style of assembling a team. I believe it is bad for the sport of baseball as it deprives countless kids the thrill of a pennant chase in far too many cities. Until baseball adopts a hard salary cap and levels the playing field for all of it’s teams it is simply not worth wasting time to watch.

That being said, Derek Jeter is a class act and I wish him a speedy recovery. Come back strong next season Derek. Men like you are needed more now than ever in our devolving society.

Over rated? I don’t know. Maybe only for a Gold Glove. But as my friends and I have always said (and none of us have like the Yankees since 2000), Jeter is the epitome of a baseball player. He plays hard every game and every at bat. he keeps himself in shape and going. He swings at an inside pitcher’s pitch and puts it into right field for a hit when few others would.

I don’t like the “buy a championship” Yankees, but I think that Jeter shoud be called Mister Baseball. He carries his love of the game on to the field every day, and I respect that.

Agreed, you can hate the Yankees, and a lot of us do, but you have to respect a guy like Jeter to do what hes done in that environment in that city for that long. Hate seeing him carried off the field like that. I smelled broken ankle on the first replay, too bad the broadcasters needed glasses. They didn’t spot the point of the injury until a special replay showed them haha.
