8 pm on a Saturday night is a perfectly reasonable time slot. Oh, and it’s the playoffs. It seemed like the entire Baltimore series and especially Game 1 against Detroit, I have never seen such a lifeless atmosphere in Yankee stadium in the playoffs.

Valverde should change his name to Valmuerte.

That was one bizarre game. And I’m not ashamed to say I shed a tear when they helped Jeter off the field. I’m no Yankees fan, but that was heartbreaking. What fun is beating the Yankees sans Jeter?

Man, Joe Girardi looked like he was just barely keeping it together during that presser. Didn’t his dad die this week?

How about starting the game a 1pm instead of 8pm. Imagine Dads taking their kids to the game to fill those empty seats. Only 7,328 tickets left on Stubhub for this afternoon’s game.

Based on Leyland’s post-game comments, it looks like Valverde might have lost his job as closer.
He said it’ll be discussed and he’ll tell folks tomorrow what the decision is. Valverde’s post-game
interview with John Keating of Fox Sports Detroit suggests he’s in denial. Interesting to hear FSD’s
Mario Impemba and Rod Allen be pretty vociferous that a change is needed.

I agree….lots of empty seats, which I assume they sold. But folks stayed home. Yes, it was cold,
but, hey, it’s the post-season! I think you’re right about the take-it-for-granted attitude of
the fans there….

Is it just me or has anyone noticed the complete absence of playoff-like atmosphere in Yankee stadium this postseason? It seems like the crowd is not into it at all; nothing to cheer for, like “been there done that”. Maybe it’s just me, but it doesn’t seem like playoff baseball in New York this year. It kinda reminds me of the Braves when they had their streak of consecutive playoff appearances. It just became blah after a while – no real excitement anymore.

Leyland’s famous loyalty is going to be tested now. It’s obvious that Valverde’s confidence is shot.
Even if it weren’t, he’s a one-pitch pitcher…and that pitch is a straight medium fastball. You can’t
keep putting him out there. And let’s not forget Benoit stunk too…he gave up a rocket that
Jackson made a great play on, a rocket double that Garcia almost caught and a laser one-hopper
to Infante….the back end of the pen needs to be retooled—-now! Period.

Great comic relief moment (after watching Jeter get carried off the field) from Det. hero Delmon Young. Clueless Sager or whatever his name is gets the on-field interview with Young and asks: “how did you guys deal with that 9th inning collapse and ugh the emotions oh ah ooh how did you come back???”

Young responds: “we’re big leaguers, that’s what we’re supposed to do.”

Dead air as Clueless Sager waits breathlessly for more; Young remains silent. Hilarious.
