Hey Natslady...cry me a river. Don't complain because Phillies fans buy 80% of the tickets in your usually empty stadium. Those fans essentially paid your right fielders inflated salary. Maybe you should focus on your GM's decision making skills instead of complaining about another team's fanbase.

I'm a Yankee fan and I realize we are America's most loved and hated team.

But I dislike the Cards because they treat the regular season like it's the NBA or NHL - -
do the minimum to make the Playoffs and then try to get hot in the playoffs.
They had the least wins the last two years of any Playoff team with 88 and 90
wins. They play in the weakest division in baseball and still only get in as a
wild-card or 2nd wild card team this year. I hate to see them get hot for a week
and take the World Series title. It's like Giants going 9-7 and winning the Super Bowl.
I can't respect them as any kind of real "championship" caliber team.

Agree with forsch31. As a Cardinals fan, I don't mind hearing someone comment on the great baseball fans that are in St. Louis - especially players and managers from opposing teams, visiting fans of other teams, or even sports broadcasters - but can't stand to hear it as some kind of marketing tagline like Detroit's "Hockeytown USA".
I understand that sports is a business, and something like that sells. But Cardinals fans definitely did not self-annoint. And there's always that minority of fans, even in StL, that are just outright stupid and classless.
I'm not one to contribute to chat rooms with any regularity, just created my login today for this site. But felt compelled to get on and comment. I have read some of the most ignorant, hateful, ridiculous things posted in comment sections on news sites and sports sites - enough to make you give up on the human race. But if you follow sites like VivaElBirdos and other Cardinals fan sites, you'll find that the majority of them are intelligent, witty, and fair. Ditto to fans of the Nationals and (SF) Giants, also plenty of good San Jose Sharks fans, while we're at it. I won't list the teams who have fans that I don't appreciate, but chances are they know who they are anyway.

Always surprises me to hear goofy arguments like the Cardinals "stole (the World Series) from the worthier Rangers". In pro sports, you have to WIN the championship in order to claim it, correct? Chipmaker, would you prefer the way college footbally does it? I'm sure the Rangers would have earned a nice bowl game and might have even been ranked #1 by a bunch of baseball writers - that's better than playing the games to decide who wins?
I'm gonna assume you agree that real playoff games are better than the BCS. So maybe you just think the Cardinals get more than their fair share of luck, and they are always the wild card but are never good enough to win a division. Actually the Cards have been on the other end of a "lesser" team beating a "worthier" team series plenty of times. How bout 100 wins in 2005 with an NLCS exit courtesy of the 89-win Astros? Or the Cardinals 105-win season in 2004, only to be destroyed by Boston of all teams? Don't even get me started on the 1987 and 1985 World Series losses, each in 7 games - with a severely blown call, a man-eating tarp, and a terrible/stupid (was then, and still is now) rule for deciding home-field advantage in the World Series.
Anyway, the breaks don't always go the Cardinals way. They've paid their dues, been on the wrong end of somebody else's "magical" season. But they play the game the right way, and somehow eventually come back to try again. I love rooting for this team, and don't feel guilty about their recent success - will just enjoy it while I can. GO CARDS!

For whatever it's worth, I really enjoyed watching the Cardinals play the Nats in the LDS. They're an exciting team to watch, and I got a lot of crazy stares when I sat and cheered as Bryce Harper came up to bat that Sunday (my friend eventually told me I needed to cheer for him on the inside, haha). Can't wait to see what they do with Strasburg healthy all year. It's nice to see some competition from some new faces and from a team that's given fans no reason to be hateful to each other :)

I am a die hard Tigers fan. It will be fun if we beat the Skanks and fun to get to the Series. But I swear I will enjoy it even more if the GIants finally shut that team down.

I attended one Cards/Cubs game at Wrigley. Upon leaving the game, some Cubs fans, spying my Cardinals hat tried to pour beer on me from a higher deck. Of course, like their pitchers they failed to hit their location and missed badly. Nevertheless, I think they proved that Cards fans don't have a monopoly on "rude" and "self righteous". Anyway, I hope you have fun during the postseason or, as it's known in Chicago, charity-golf-tournament season.

As a Yankee fan i love the Cards...they remind me of the Yankees of the late 90's early 2000's. they have no high priced over paid "superstars", they play the game right with pitching and defense and situational hitting. Nothing wrong with that. Oh and Motte was my college teammate, that helps a little bit.

This article is very ignorant and ill-conceived. Any true fan of the game of baseball realizes the cardinals are the one of the greatest franchises in the history of sports by winning and doing it the right way. Cardinal fans are some of the most knowledgeable, like-able, and not too mention respectable and appreciative in mannerism to every team they face. Also- the cardinals win without having to pay yankee money.

Consider this, subtract 11 of the yankees 27 championships during the george steinbrener era when almost all of the championships were contributed to paying the games best players year in and year out with all of the money in the world and you have a team with 16 championships) Now compare that to the small market St. Louis Cardinals who have 11 championships (would have been 12 had the 85 series not been tampered by poor officiating) who are yet to pay for a championship and still compete almost every year by developing great players, work hard, and good fundamental baseball. In the past 12 years alone the small market cardinals have appeared in the NLCS in 2000, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2011, and 2012. 7 TIMES AS A SMALL MARKET TEAM. Not too mention 3 NLCS titles and and 2 Series titles. It's one thing to hate a team that pays for titles, but definitely unfair to hate a team that wins as a result of genuine hard work.

Time and Time again over each generation and era it doesn't matter what the adversity or situation has been, the St. Louis Cardinals have always found a way to win by playing the game the right way and not have to pay for titles. The Cardinals can let the greatest player of our time in Pujols walk and STILL MAKE IT TO THE PENANT. The cardinals can win on the last strike after last strike and come back from 6-0 deficits because the cardinals are built to play the game well and play with anybody anytime any day. If you can't respect how genuinely great of the team the cardinals are, then you should honestly take a good look at yourself in the mirror.

They get my vote for 'least creative fans in baseball.'

They lost Pujols and Jackson last year, and they make the playoffs once again. They are like the NY Giants, winning it all, but never getting the respect. For expample, Craig here thought the Cards stood no chance against his vastly superior Braves. Look which team has ended up with an early exit once again and which one looks to be making the WS once again.

I know this isn't about Nats fans, but most Nats fans don't hate the Cardinals. We hate that we lost to them, a punch in the gut. But they didn't do anything wrong or obnoxious, they played to the last man, the last strike, the last out. They didn't invade our stadium with drunken hooligans as fans, or kick us when we were down, like the Fillies. I can't watch the NLCS because it's too painful. I want to give the Cards a good whallop when we see them in April, but that's not hate, that's revenge. I think the Nats could have beaten the Giants, but I'm not at all sure they could have beaten the Tigers. At any rate, I'll take 100 wins and losing in the last inning of the NLDS to 100 losses and being irrelevant by June.

Is the Cardinal hate gonna be worse next year? Cards probably won't have Lohse, Berkman is retiring, Furcal might not be back. There will be a host of no-name people that come and go, who the fans won't even remember.
