Jeter will not miss 4-5 months of the 2013 baseball season as the lead in suggests. Jeter will need from the date of the surgery 4-5 months to recover from the operation, which puts the end in March.

Ok, let’s look at it this way, if Jeter is so “clutch”. Jeter’s regular season OPS is .829 for his career. Let’s look at the number of times he hit worse than that in the playoffs:

33 Total Series (average is .838 by the way, so he hits almost exactly the same in the playoffs as the regular season, but I digress).

16/33 “series” he’s hit worse than .829. So roughly half the time he hit worse, and half the time he hit better. The means the median is slightly higher than his average (since 16.5 > 16) which means we’re slightly higher than his .829 average, which puts us at, surprise, .838!

and 07 his MVP year I would think that to defend him you would bring something more to the table than OPS for a guy who drove in 150 runs! the guy is no pressure player he’s us afraid to fail and his playoff performances speak for themselves

But wait, you said that Arod hasn’t done anything with the Yanks? Now I have to talk about how well he did with the Yanks while winning an MVP? Sure, let’s get some information!

In ’07, he hit 54 home runs. While this in and of itself isn’t significant for Arod, it’s huge as a Yankee. Why you ask? Because he’s the first right handed hitter to hit 40 HR at YS since Dimaggio! That’s right, while YS (all iterations) are great for left handed power hitters, it was a death’s valley to left center thus leading to that stat. Arod also led the league in runs, SLG, RBI, OPS+ and OPS. Something Jeter has never come close to doing.

Also, while yes Jeter has 3,000 hits, Arod will break that barrier too. But unlike Arod, Jeter won’t break 2000 RBI. Arod also has more runs than Jeter, even though Jeter was a leadoff hitter most of his career.

Probably, but any setbacks and his 2013 will be affected. Actually, full healing from injuries like this is 2 years, so it will be affecting him anyway–I expect it to affect both his speed and quickness, at least in the early part of the year.

Why compare Jeter with A-Rod?

FYI, Jeter hit .333 in the 2012 playoffs. A-POS, well, the manager decided to bench A-POS.

Jeter has less natural ability that A-Rod . But Jeter has not thing that Alex Rodriguiz does not have — mental toughness. To play pro ball, you need skills, and all the pros have skills. But to excel, you need mental toughness. You need to want it. You need to be hungry. You need desire.

Jeter proved it last year. Remember? He was hitting bad. Very very bad. Like .230 ba. Looked like the end for #2. But Derek Jeter showed what he is really made of and he bounced back in the 2nd half of the season and this year he hit great. I’m no starry-eyed fan, but what Jeter did last year and this year shows that he is a true professional. We should all respect him for that.

Alex Rodriguez, well, I’m not sure what is going through his mind.

Of course Jeter has done more as a Yankee….he’s played for the Yankees for a lot longer than A-Rod. If the Yankees had the chance to draft A-Rod and he had the same exact career there is a 0.00% chance that Yankees fans would be so critical of him.

ohhh church…ok first the context of jeter accomplishing more than arod where you bring up Ted Williams and sojo? that’s a terrible argument!! Jeter has 200 postseason hits because he has 158 postseason career games. Get that, he has an entire additional season on his career just from the playoffs. As for his consistency, where was that during

’04 ALCS – .200/.333/.233 for a .567 OPS
’07 ALDS – .176/.176/.176 for a .353 OPS
’10 ALDS – .286/.286/.286 for a .571 OPS
’11 ALDS – .250/.280/.292 for a .572 OPS

Those are just a few of them. It’s almost like small sample sizes can have wildly different results.

A-Rod has very similar playoff OBP and slugging percentages as Jeter (They have the same OPS). Jeter played in the playoffs everyyear of his prime. A-Rod missed the playoffs 6 times in this prime. Can we please stop pretending that the numbers A) Mean a whole lot & B) Are all that different.

A-Rod- .265/.372/.467 (.838 OPS)
Jeter- .308/.374/.465 (.838 OPS)

“has accomplished a lot more” means “happened to play for the Yankees in the late ’90′s”. Jeter absolutely contributed to those successes, but it’s hardly A-Rod’s fault that the Yankees have only one championship since 2000. In fact, they only have the one championship IN SPITE of A-Rod’s performance. You said yourself, he’s been the better player.

I just defended Jeter, but now I’m going to stand up for Rodriguez (I feel dirty): The Yankees have won one World Series in the last eleven years and no player deserves more of the credit for that lone championship than A-Rod. His overall playoff numbers are every bit as good (or better) than Jeter’s.

Yankee fans who think Rodriguez owes them sort of apology, or has spat in their faces are ridiculous. Get over yourself.

ill tell you why only one is a pariah as you so call it…it’s actually quite easy really….PLAYOFF PERFORMANCE!!!!!! Jeter plays his best ball in October and always has since being a rookie…Arod is a chump who is so afraid to fail that he makes himself look like a 12 year old in a playoff batters box!!! oh and btw jeter had been playing on a bad ankle for months and then it finally took its toll..jeter was actually producing despite that injury…arod just is not a pressure player and the fact that you are trying to defend him flirting with fans (be it true or not) after being benched for crucial games is a disgrace!! by flirting and acting like he could care less he might as well hawk up a big glob of spit and spit in Yankees fans faces!! jeter brings 110% every night and everyone knows it!’ Arod plays hard but he cannot produce when it really matters and that is just a fact!! that’s why he is the one who is targeted!
