From Bryan Hoch of comes word that Game 4 of the ALCS has been postponed due to rainy conditions in and around Comerica Park.

It will be made up at 4:07 p.m. ET on Thursday.

CC Sabathia and Max Scherzer didn’t even bother warming up, so they’ll both be fresh for the makeup.

The rest of the ALCS schedule gets pushed back.

So if this goes 7, CC will pitch on two days rest?

Nothing that has happened to date would lead one to believe the series could go seven.

Yeah, this rain delay reminds me of those patients who, once removed from life support, just go on breathing for another day or two on their own….

Seems fishy to me with the whole lack of rain in Detroit. Much more reasonable explanation for both games being delayed is an umpire strike that Major League Baseball is covering up. Occam’s Razor.

NWS indicates thunderstorms and rain until 1AM, which is not a great time to start a game. If you go to and check the radar, you’ll see numerous heavy showers all around the area. You are reasoning that a game called due to weather is not really called due to weather but an umpire’s strike, covered up by a conspiracy between the federal government, multiple TV networks, MLB, and every news outlet in the country?!

Holy crap, I hope you’re kidding because your reasoning is the opposite of Occam’s Razor. Maybe we could call it Bubba’s Squeegee.

“The rest of the ALCS schedule gets pushed back.”

What rest of the ALCS schedule????

  4. historiophiliac - Oct 17, 2012 at 9:36 PM

I really feel sorry for the person that won tickets from Verlander to go to the game tonight. They may not be able to go during the day tomorrow and that would suck.

The ESPN scoreboard page briefly said:

“THE GAME HAS BEEN POSTPONED DUE TO RAIN. Detroit wins series 3-0”

  6. sagnam - Oct 17, 2012 at 9:45 PM

Only today and tomorrow got pushed back.

    • Old Gator - Oct 17, 2012 at 10:24 PM

So tomorrow, yesterday will be today, and tomorrow will be the day after?

      • historiophiliac - Oct 17, 2012 at 10:53 PM

        It’s Slaugherhouse-Five after all…or again…where was I?

      • Old Gator - Oct 17, 2012 at 11:23 PM

Unstuck in time. Those chronosynclastic infundibulae will do that to ya.

      • Old Gator - Oct 17, 2012 at 11:25 PM

…although ackcherley, the way the Borg has been playing, maybe a Blood Meridian style reportage would be more appropriate.

  7. drewsylvania - Oct 17, 2012 at 9:48 PM

Why day playoff baseball during the week?

  8. Dave Fouchey - Oct 17, 2012 at 9:51 PM So much for no rain in Detroit.

  9. mybrunoblog - Oct 17, 2012 at 9:57 PM

And this pushes the post season schedule back even further. If the World Series now reaches a game 7 it will be played on the Friday after Thankgiving. Thanks Bud!

Not that this has any real bearing on the current series, but historically, postponements have not worked out well for the Yankees, and I love injecting misery wherever I can :-)

Everyone in Michigan knew, 32 hours before the game (and 8 hours before Game 3!) that rain was going to hit Detroit for Game 4.

The meteorologists predicted that it would rain at 9:30 p.m. … and they predicted this on the NOON broadcast… THE DAY BEFORE the game!

MLB had plenty of time to move the game to a 4:00 p.m. start (over a days notice) and yet they let it get rained out.

    Joe Torre should be fired.

    • michael89123 - Oct 17, 2012 at 11:59 PM

Game 4 is now going to be at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, so you can’t say that they would only play the game during Prime Time.

They had plenty of time to move the game and give both teams the info.

    • cardsfanandi - Oct 18, 2012 at 10:47 AM

The NLCS game started at 3:05 pm central, which is 4:05 pm eastern…at this point in the postseason you can’t really schedule games at the same time. There’s no reason to do that. If they would’ve moved the NLCS game to a later slot then maybe it would’ve worked out, but that time has been set for a week, so why change it to benefit the other series, which looks to be done after the next game (or maybe two) anyway?

  12. mungman69 - Oct 18, 2012 at 3:52 AM

Maybe if the rain keeps up it won’t come down.

  13. riterboy - Oct 18, 2012 at 8:38 AM

My son and I were at the game. We sat there in excellent weather for over 1 1/2 hours before they announced it was postponed. Then, on the drive home, we kept hearing that it still wasn’t raining at Comerica. Three plus hours of driving, $40+ for gas, $20+ for parking, $20+ for food, etc. Now, we get to do it all again. Thanks, Bud. In my book, you just jumped back ahead of Gary Bettman in your two-moron contest for worst professional sports league commissioner in history.

    • foreverchipper10 - Oct 18, 2012 at 12:27 PM

Here’s hoping that if you paid for parking yesterday they do not charge again for today’s game.
