A-Rod to the Marlins makes all kind of sense.

Once he’s on a last place team he will obviously revert back to “MVP” caliber performance.

Especially since his “cousin” lives in Miami.

He can churn out 50 roided up HRs a year without affecting any actual baseball races and everyone can pretend he’s no a fraud and things go back to normal.

“Yay! He broke Hank Aaron (I mean Barry Bond’s) record…..but didn’t effect the outcome of any meaningful games….yay! Everyone is happy! Idiots saw their tainted hero break a tainted record, and true fans watched a punchless World Series!

Before you pass go, would the Yankees want to keep Rodriguez for next year. I am looking at a lot of rebuilding will be going on. Getting rid of any part of Rodriquez’s ridiculous salary would help. And he is a distraction one would like to get rid of.

All I said was that it’s possible. This isn’t Larry King spreading rumors based on a conversation at a deli. This is a former ESPN employee spreading rumors based on conversations at a deli.

Whatever it is, I don’t believe Olberman is just making stuff up. His politics and abrasive personality can cloud our judgments here. Does he have a history of making stuff up? (I honestly don’t know.) And please don’t confuse his political punditry — which is often based on assumptions for even the best pundits — with reporting.

Not defending the guy. Just saying he didn’t necessarily make this up.

I know! Cliff Lee only had 6 wins this year! He’s terrible!!! I mean he did throw 211 innings with a 3.16 ERA averaging almost a strikeout an inning so at least he’s trying a little but come on! 6 wins??? Totally washed up.

If the money ends up being the same (either straight dumping Arod’s deal and eating the remaining balance) or taking on Bell’s deal it would make complete sense.

Bell was a good reliever. He might be able to return to form. Worst case scenario is he doesn’t then you dump him and eat the balance due.

Either way…the numbers add up the same and all it costs you is some spring training innings to see if Bell is salvageable.

I would assume that every GM in the league has some type of certificate in his files attesting to his sanity. Even if it turns out A-Rod is still suffering from his hand injury and came back at his average OPS (mid 800′s) for the last four years, it’s a bad deal. Looking at his WAR’s, it’s worse. Then you can start talking about age.

Not even the Dodgers or the Angels would bite on this one.
