Right away I’m thinking about the 1977-1978 Yankees, who beat the Dodgers in back-to-back World Series.

Those two postseason series against the Yankees that the Giants won were the first two between the two clubs. In the 40 years after that, the Yankees won the next five (1923, 1936, 1937, 1951, and 1962), and there hasn’t been another in the last 50 years.

So, to make a long story short, the Yankees have a 90-year winning streak going against the Giants in postseason series.

It would be good to put a stop to that, but at the moment it doesn’t look like this year the opportunity will arise.

the yankees look cooked. i have a feeling they won’t put up too much of a fight from now on. sure, they might win tonight, but the tigers took the knife that sanchez and fister (and the umps) stuck in their throats over the weekend and swiped it across the neck last night. their ultimate fate is predicated on whether they take a swing or two, or are content to sit on the floor an bleed out into the detroit night.

secretly, the tiger fans wanted this matchup. the yankees haven’t seemed to play all that well against the tigers recently. the apathetic look on the player’s faces is like fine art to us after an elimination game loss.
