No dobut Hector had a bad game. Have to remember the kid is only 22 and is still learning the position. He is a good back up for days Posey needs rests.

Boch also wanted more offense in the lineup after a lame team showing the night before. Belt looked lost, so Sanchez was seen as an upgrade with Buster moving to first. It’s worked before. Sanchez has had a solid year on offense and behind the plate, especially for a rookie and is a real option in the future.Everybody in the Cards lineup got clutch hits so it didn’t really matter. The Giants weren’t going to match the Cards’ eight runs the way Wainwright pitched.

Not that it matters because we got spanked again, but keeping Sanchez in the game keeps an extra bat on the bench. This has been an issue all post season. If Sanchez goes out, Posey back to the dish, and Belt off the bench…that eliminates a potential matchup later in the game should Bochy need a good lefty off the bench to pinch hit. Like I said, not that it matters because the game never got close. We have one less bat off the bench the whole post season because we are carrying all 5 starting pitchers.

No question the Giants are better with Posey behind the plate and Belt at 1B. But part of Bochy’s motivation has been to give Posey regular breaks from catching. The guy is an MVP, but he is also coming off a horrific leg injury, and it was reasonable to keep him from catching 162+ games.

No arguments from most Giants fans on this topic, although to be fair, half of Timmy’s innings this post season were pitching to Sanchez (G4 where he took over for Zito).
