Toronto has 4 daily newspapers, 3 all sports cable networks and 2 all sport radio stations, yet the Jays leak to none of them. All the stories about Farrell originate from leaks by Red Sox management to the Boston media.

What many of you are forgetting is Boston only hired Valentine for 2 years. The 2 years remaining on Farrell’s deal with Toronto. So, basically the comp. is for him leaving a year early. It won’t be anything big since Boston can balk and walk away. Toronto will have to anticipate on loosing Farrell next year anyways with no return.

When the assessment you use to support your argument is from January 2012, I tend to believe that you couldn’t find much else to back up your statement.

A lot has happened since the pre-season. Like some of those B- types improving and the emergence of Matt Barnes and Xander Boegarts as legit blue chip level prospects.

I don’t get the hardon that the Sox seem to have for Farrell, if you believe all these reports coming from the ridiculous Boston media. Injuries aside this year, it’s been hard to get a read on how good a manager he is. There’s certainly been enough evidence from what I’ve seen on the field and a small number of the players themselves (Omar Vizquel) that he doesn’t have as tight a rein on this team as you’d like to see. If the BoSox want him, I say let them take him…but get something back a lot better than some low level minor leaguer, just because they’re in your division and for the hassle of conducting a new manager search.

This is my favorite comment ever. We have absolutely no idea what Boston is offering for Farrell, and TheBadGuysWon has determined, once and for all, that it’s a terrible deal.

Some of the best recent managers — Bobby Cox, Joe Torre and Terry Francona come to mind — were utter failures in prior positions before finding the right job. Unlike TheBadGuys, I have no idea whether Farrell will be good in Boston, and I’m dying to know how anyone can determine he’ll be a failure.

Give me a break. I love posts like this. You just named six players in their system. SIX. Who is going to take over for them if they send them to Toronto for a manager that could be out of town after 2013?

You need to do better than this. I want close to major league talent. I want guys in High A/AA to take over for the guys you are sending out of here. Don’t you think that they raided the system this year after their trade and there isn’t really much left?

Bryce Brentz is about the only prospect I give a chance to have success in MLB.

We can talk after Iglesias is (finally) let go from the system and they do their 2013 draft.

Just for the record, it was Gordon Edes that got the ball rolling on this story and not Alex Speier, who basically took what Edes Tweeted and got a confirmation.

I’m with Edes in pulling for Tony Pena, but Farrell is still revered by Sox clubhouse and that’s probably whats gonna put him over the top. If they can’t work out reasonable compensation then they move on to the next candidate. In any event, at least Cherington can show the players he tried to get “their guy”.

And compensation for Farrell will not be anything worse than the what the Marlins gave up for Guillen, which to this point, may or may not amount to a future bullpen piece.

The thing that kills me is that I feel the Red Sox are targeting Farrell b/c that’s who they think WE want, just like they did with Valentine.

How about this approach: DO YOUR FREAKING JOBS and pick out a manager who fits the system, and stop worrying about the TV show. If they let Cherington work, I bet we’d end up with Ausmus or Wallach, not Farrell.

I am not saying that Farrell is a horrible manager, he just doesnt seem like the guy that can turn it around in Boston…he sure hasnt turned it around in Toronto – excuses or no excuses!
