As expected, R.A. Dickey underwent surgery Thursday in Philadelphia to repair a torn abdominal muscle that he pitched through for most of the season.
Dickey confirmed via his Twitter account earlier this evening that the surgery was a success. He’s expected to be ready for spring training.
Surgery went well.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts, prayers etc. I'm back from Philly unscathed. That is except for a 2 inch incision in my lower ab.

Dickey posted a 2.73 ERA and 230/54 K/BB ratio over 233 2/3 innings this season and is one of the favorites for the National League Cy Young Award, which will be handed out on November 14. His contract includes a bargain $5.25 million club option for next season, but the Mets are expected to get in touch with his agent soon about a possible contract extension.

Here’s hoping that Biggeth Dicketh recovers smartly and returns to entertain us and baffle the opposition again next season.

He’s fun to watch, and when he’s on, the expressions on the batters’ faces are priceless. He and David Wright are the only reasons to watch any Mets baseball.

“Thursday in Philadelphia”
Leaving the Philly airport Wednesday afternoon I saw a guy who clearly had just flown into Philly, who looked just like R.A. Dickey. I thought to myself – no, wouldn’t be him.
