NL teams use the pinch hitter when they are ready and willing to use the strategy.

The DH is unnatural. It has not brought a “better” or “more advanced” dimension to the ballgame. Any baseball message boarder who claims that a pitcher is always an easy out and unnecessary at-bat must really not enjoy the game they proclaim to love.

Oh, yeah, it’s “strategy” to plan for a crappy at bat. Don’t pretend that NL teams don’t use a pinch hitter when they can. And why would you waste a good all-around player at DH? The whole point is to replace the pitcher in the batting order. It frees teams from the pretense that pitchers should hit. I don’t care to see any great pitcher hit — I want to see them throw.

Kill the DH. AL baseball is baseball for dummies. It’s not even baseball. In baseball, every player hits, fields, and throws. I’d rather see emerging players than some fat, old dude that can’t field a position anymore. I could manage an AL club.

Great. Egg on the junior high schooler above. I will say this, that after being around a lot of piss-drunks in my life, Delmon’s incident could easily be blamed on his alcoholism as opposed to his true mindset. And even if it was his true mindset, the mitzvah is to forgive.

Keep watching baseball with your blinders on. Pitchers do take their batting seriously because they are (gasp) still going to be relied upon to get that bunt down. But, yeah, it’s so easy to hit major league pitching when you not allowed to hit from the end of high school until you reach the pros and then told to try to bunt the first two strikes you get. So go get ‘em, keyboard jockeys. It’s two strikes. Just put wood on the ball. Hit ‘em where they ain’t.

Just like it’s not the AL’s fault that the NL has a player who is incapable of handling a bat hitting 9th several times a game. I’d rather watch Jim Thome take a rip at the plate than watch some pitcher flail at a fastball.

Detroit seems to have a large percentage of overweight players – Delmon Young, Jose Valverde, Miguel Cabrera, Octavio Dotel, Prince Fielder, etc…

Obviously the team’s still had success, but what the heck are they feeding these guys?

I watched Delmon in Minnesota for his entire time there. Awful in the field, agreed, but he doesn’t have a weak arm. He’s actually got an above average arm. Either way, good luck to the Tigers, I have a ton of respect for the manager. Hope they pull it out for the AL.

This is why it is pertinent for the Tigers to get the lead by the 7th so they can replace him with Berry or Garcia.

It’s amazing how all of a sudden Young hasn’t been swinging at EVERY first pitch, and suddenly he’s been a solid offensive contributor, as opposed to the entire regular season where he was invisible.
