AA was being nice to the Red Sox. There is no question that he was pissed off at all the leaks that began in Boston. Someone had to be behind the stories and any reasonable person would conclude that the Red Sox were behind it.

The only thing I’d say is, obviously rival fans have every right to dislike Sox ownership for whatever reasons they choose. But, it’s kind of hard to pin ‘leak campaign’ on them when AA absolved them of such during the very same press conference that he suggested that such a thing had occurred.

In reading Bob Elliott’s tweet, I interpreted it as mere speculation and not as something that was being sourced and checked. That’s the downside of Twitter, it can blur the lines from a readers perspective when a beat writer or journalist puts a thought out there.

I typically don’t put too much weight on a Tweet unless the reporter qualifies it with “Source:” or something similar.

A reasoned response. Regarding my luxury tax comment, in my anger over the leak campaign being run by the Red Sox organization, I forgot about the salary dumping trade. I have no respect for the SOB’s who run the Red Sox. Lind hit very well after he returned to the Jays. He would have helped the Red Sox. Mottola will likely be a member of the Jays coaching staff next season. He is good and gets along well with current hitting coach Dwayne Murphy.

Proudly Canadian:

1) Adam Lind’s problems started mid-way through last season because of a lack of off-season conditioning.

2) He was reportedly woefully out of shape this year with a noted lack of bat speed.

3) It was a combination of an intense workout regimen and one-on-one instruction with Chad Mottola that got Lind back to Toronto in late June.

4) The Red Sox have zero luxury tax problems. That was more than taken care of with “The Trade”. But, I’m not sure a player like Lind even fits their strategy going forward.

Look my fine furred friend. When the story about the trade being finalized, I was asleep in bed. Obviously, the Jays have decided that Farrell is just so so as a manager and will probably continue to be ordinary. Toronto’s biggest needs off season are pitching and second base. Aceves can play second. He is not as good as Pedroia, but will be better than Kelly Johnson was. The Sox once again have a hole at SS and good luck finding one. I mentioned Buchholz because he is a decent starting pitcher. I am aware that Boston has a big need for starting pitchers, so I realistically did not expect to get him. I was just trying to upset some of the arrogant Red Sox fans out there who think that they can get another team’s manager for a minor league suspect.

This probably wasn’t Duane Murphy’s idea: he was all about hitting. Standing there taking strikes was never his approach. Hacking the ball over the fence was what he was about. Lind always had any eye for a hittable pitch, strike or otherwise. He was pretty good at going below the knee to golf-shot one. It was odd seeing him let those go by. Hope he gets that back next season.

For the RS, “giving up” Aviles just solves a problem. He wasn’t under contract…so he was walking or going to be offered arbitration. He can’t hit and will be 32 yrs old. He’s a bench player, at best….but then….so is Lind.

In short, “compensation” for Farrell was essentially nothing.

Pena should have gotten the job…with that said, I hope Farrell pans out. I liked him then, and the team needs…DESPERATELY… a leader. It was a completely different team then during his previous tenure. Farrell managed a squad in Toronto that had more overall talent then the current Sox lineup.
The two money men should just sign the check and let baseball people be baseball people. So in closing, I hope GM Cherrington comes out of this looking right

This whole thing has left a bad taste in my mouth – guess its OK for other clubs to tamper with Jays’ employees who are UNDER CONTRACT…they should have stalled until the Red Sox had to hire someone else, then fired Farrell and eaten the last year of his contract…sometimes a message has to be sent and Beeston/AA did not send one here…I get the drill that they wanted something for someone they didn’t even want and in all honesty probably just wanted the whole thing over with but still as a Jays fan since 1977 I am disappointed with the way they handled this….

Can’t really call Toronto a city of losers or whatever you called them either? I played hockey in the garden and visited the museum of technology, been there several times the leafs have won the cup a more then few times and the jays dominated the ALE in the 80′s so can’t really get behind that …inane remark? Phillie on the other hand..no just kidding. Both are very cool small city’s.

Plenty more moves to come for TO. They are a lot closer than Boston to being good and losing Farrell doesn’t change that. Expect a Hech, Aviles middle infield next year.

So Lind is not part of the deal. I am not surprised as he and Farrell did not seem to get along and his contract would not help Boston’s luxury tax problem. When Lind was recently asked about his early season batting woes, he replied that he had been told that he was not walking enough. Consequently, he took too many hittable pitches early in the count. During his stint in the minors he became more aggressive at the plate and continued to hit well once he was recalled. When asked about who wanted him to walk more, he refused to say. Lind certainly regressed with Farrell as his manager.

I really wish there was a way to set up the comments section so that I could just never read certain people’s comments. I mean, RandyinNYC and StLouis1 (or whatever their names are) and I disagree on things all the time, and we mutually thing the other one’s an idiot all the time. But I’d never block them. There’s about three people here who post ALL THE TIME and yet never have anything worthwhile to say. I don’t want Craig to block them (they’re not as bad as Bozos or HalladaysBicept). I just wish there was an IGNORE button next to some people’s names.

The average Canadian is richer than the average American and is also reportedly happier than us. It’s probably all that free health care providing everyone anti-depressants, but still. They do this all while somehow managing to avoid everyone in the world hating them. Why, other than an odd obsession with the War of 1812 and preposterously cold winters (and global warming should rectify the latter), Canada seems to be a fine country.

Farrell seems to have lost the Jays’ clubhouse. While it’s true that all the injuries were not his fault, the lack of leadership is an issue. I can’t wish Farrell better luck elsewhere. I hope he’s even worse in Boston.
