OK…first, it was one of the BEST sweeps of all time. Seriously journalists…you need to leave NY and LA every once in a while to see what is happening in the REAL world.

Secondly, the Tigers now officially OWN the Yankees in the post-season. This is the THIRD time since 2006 that the Tigers have sent the Yankees home early.

And finally…this is the end of this Yankee era. Jeter may (or may not) return. A-Rod will be run out of town – and he’ll probably go happily. Rivera may (or may not) be back – but if anyone can come back at that age, it’s him. Swisher is history. Ibanez is 40 (God love ‘em!). This bunch is DONE.

Let the rebuilding phase begin!

In watching the Yankees, you could just feel they were completely checked out!! You could just feel during the ALCS the Yankees had suddenly morphed into a very bad team over nite! Very weird!!

Dunno, there just seems to be something missing from the usual hysteria over the Yankees’ failure. Something above and beyond the media rage and scapegoating. Took a while, but I finally remembered.

George Steinbrenner. Now there was a man who could create hysteria all by himself, even when the Yankees were winning. His sons just don’t seem up to the task.

I have to say I saw it coming…at one point I speculated that the Yankees might not even make the playoffs due to hitting with RISP issue. I also opined (very wrongly), that if the Yankees didn’t go to the world series it MIGHT be because of the pitching at that point…but nope, even allowing for CC’c dud…the pitching can’t be listed as the cause for what is likely one of the 3 worst NYY performances in the post season. (’04,’12,’76)

Yeah, the ’89 Series has to count as the worst. But it gets a huge asterisk, since I suspect that to a very large degree, no one’s head was really in it by the time play resumed. It was a bigger victory for the Bay Area that life could go on than any the A’s did on the field. This isn’t to take anything away from the A’s, but we will never know what might have been if the third game wasn’t pre-empted.

I don't know that the reactions of the New York Pestilence added much of anything to the experience. It's nauseating enough to check out my soymilk and tofu past the gauntlet of tabloid viscosity at Publix as it is. I can't even imagine if I'd want to eat at all if I had to read the cover of the Pestilence as well.

It’s a fun system, kinda like the baseball prediction equivalent of cold fusion. I think though that spoiled expectations should be factored in as well, in which case this series really gets “kicked up” a bit. Then again, there were warnings. The Borg lost a huge divisional lead in September, playing poorly all month, only finding a little extra gas once the Gloryholes were nipping hard at their tushies and barely eking out the division lead at the wire. Maybe we should have seen this coming – and didn’t only because that stellar Borg mystique obscured how vulnerable they really were.

I’m pretty surprised that the White Sox sweep of the Astros in 2005 didn’t rank higher. Probably because it was an offensive futility series. The games were close because no one could hit. It wasn’t much fun from a Houston standpoint, though.
