TMZ reports that Carlton Fisk was arrested last night and charged with a DUI in Illinois.

TMZ talked to a police source who said the Hall of Fame catcher was “driving his truck into the middle of a corn field” at around 7:00 p.m. and was asleep at the wheel next to a bottle of vodka when officers arrived.

Fisk refused a blood alcohol test and the 64-year-old was released from jail this morning.

Life as a Red Sox legend…

Well, if you’re going to do something stupid like drink and drive, doing it in a mid-western corn field is probably the best way to do it.

    • ajcardsfan - Oct 23, 2012 at 4:52 PM

Not around this time of year when a lot of corn fields are converted into mazes

  3. stlouis1baseball - Oct 23, 2012 at 4:51 PM

He was just getting the field prepped for the up-coming Corn Maze.

Still one of my favorite players of all time! People make bad decisions…doesn’t mean he’s a bad person. Just very happy nobody was hurt! Sometimes you just need to be lucky.

    I hope he didn’t hit a scarecrow

    • Glenn - Oct 23, 2012 at 10:43 PM

Maybe he was trying to hit the foul pole? I wish I never heard this story. Of course, the the “kids” disappointed by this story are all middle-aged men from New England.

A lot of retired ball players still love to hit… to bad it is mostly the bottle.

Another one falls off his pedestal. Too bad; I really admired him.

      Yeah. Me too. Dang, man.

I guess the corn fields in Illinois aren’t as magical as the cornfields of Iowa.

    • The Common Man - Oct 23, 2012 at 5:25 PM

      Fisk: “Is this Heaven?”
Farmer: “No, you idjit, you just drove through my cornfield!”

      • lostsok - Oct 23, 2012 at 8:31 PM

I wanted to post something funny, but I can’t top that…

Goes a long way toward explaining crop circles.

    • mybrunoblog - Oct 23, 2012 at 9:18 PM

      Lol. Well done.

      • Old Gator - Oct 23, 2012 at 9:32 PM

You want to see how crop circles form, you just come over to Macondo Banana Massacre Field and watch Tweeter trying to get under a pop fly to left.

Perhaps movies gave him the wrong impression on how to achieve baseball immortality.

  14. The Common Man - Oct 23, 2012 at 5:26 PM

Fisk wasn’t drunk, he was trying to wave his car back onto the road with his hands. Hey, it worked in Game 6.

    • scatterbrian - Oct 23, 2012 at 5:32 PM

Did the arresting officer use two arms to wave for him to pull his car over?

  15. yankeesgameday - Oct 23, 2012 at 7:01 PM

Lucky he was in a cornfield or he could room with Jim Leyritz the rest of his life.

  16. onegamedoesnotaseasonmake - Oct 23, 2012 at 7:51 PM

the real question is..if he’s from VT/NH, why is he out in crappy IL?

  17. weaselpuppy - Oct 23, 2012 at 8:06 PM

Seek help Mr Fisk. People that drive drunk enough to go into the MIDDLE of a cornfield and fall asleep doing it….this isn’t their first or fifth or fiftieth bad decision about drinking.

Heal yourself, your family and don’t kill someone else due to your selfish negligence. Grow up, man up and get help. Now.

      Can I get an Amen?

    • badintent - Oct 23, 2012 at 11:23 PM

To the 5 idiots that thumbs down weasealpuppy, as a bartender , I see losers like you all the time just before the cops arrest them or they kill an innocent victim or them self and make a widow out of their wife and a single mother to their children. Grow up and go to AA ! The clock starts NOW !

  19. aceshigh11 - Oct 23, 2012 at 10:08 PM

Look at how gnarled and crooked his fingers are from years of playing his position.

He must live with an awful lot of pain…not excusing him acting like a dumbass, but it’s just shocking to see the state of his hand in that photo above.

  20. joshsorensen34 - Oct 23, 2012 at 10:21 PM

Put him in jail for a very long time!!!! He is a scum to society….Throw away the key…

  21. leerosenthall - Oct 24, 2012 at 10:58 AM
