I did get to enjoy seeing Mays and Aaron, but not Musial. Now, career BA, #24 hit .302, #44 hit .305; slugging, .557 for 24, .555 for 44, average RBI per year, 113 to 103 for Aaron; seasons with 20 steals, 7 for Mays, 6 for Aaron; it is 338 to 240 for career steals for Mays, and .981 to .980 for Mays in career fielding pctg. So, I repeat, Mays is not clearly superior, they were comparable players, both living legends at the very top of the pile.

@nothanks You kiddin, right? I understand all that stuff about beauty being in the eye of the beholder, but come on man! When you talk about hardcore baseball skill sets, there was NOBODY better than Willie. Hit for Average, Hit for Power, Clutch Hitting, Speed: Home-to-First, Home-to-Third, Base Stealing, Fielding and Throwing.

BTW, did you see all three play, personally?

Not to diss Mr Mays, but I’d say “one of the greatest living legends.” A gentleman named Mr Aaron is Mr Mays’ overall equal, so deserve equal billing, as does a certain Mr Musial.

The Giants do this sort of thing very well. They invited Monte Irvin, Willie Mays, Orlando Cepeda, Gaylord Perry, Juan Marichal, and Willie McCovey to throw out the first pitch before Game 1 in 2010. All were able to participate except Mays, who was ill that day.
