the reason he was left off the roster is to give the appearance they are distancing themselves from performance enhancers. In reality they are still taking some but either they are undetectable or they don’t test during the world series. This conspiracy will come out long after the giants upset Detroit.

He would be a mega distraction. Why mess with the team chemistry? He left on bad terms. Rubbed a lot of players the wrong way. And they are winning without him. Stop bringing up the Mota thing. He apologized. Admits he screwed up. Served his time and returned. Not to mention, he’s a bullpen arm that no one cares about. Melky is the left fielder. And would be the constant focus of media attention.

No sarcasm, and no chance the season is tainted. They widened their division lead by 9 games without him.
They made two improbable post season comebacks without him.

Juxtapose that to a game winning double late in game 5 of the World Series.

Under the influence of performance enhancing drugs done so JUST to get a club to dump huge money to him which would all be guaranteed just so he can fall back down to mediocrity. And the Giants would probably be the team most likely to resign him to such a big contract had he not been caught. Which means he would have damaged their future by wasting a large piece of their payroll. So i ask you, in any scenario, what player deserves recognition for cheating?

Aren’t Giants enjoying homefield advantage partly due to Melky’s All Star game? I’m not sure how his timing would be after couple months of not facing live pitching. However, if that was a concern for Giants they could have had some minor league arms throwing him BP last couple weeks to prepare.

I said “in this order” I didn’t say it was the right order. You don’t see behavior like this from a team that’s in the World Series. That’s why it’s cool, it’s strange and enticing. I don’t think my comment was brilliant, it was average at best.

I don’t have a problem with the G-Men leaving Melky off the roster. I think it was a smart thing to do. What team wants the circus back in town–one they would have if they were to add him to the roster. Melky would have more media around him that the Pope. What Giant player wants to continuously be asked about how it feels to have Melky back on the team? Smart move by the Giants and after all what the Giants went through with BB–why should they want another circus in town.

The fake website angle to this story pushed it over the top as far as letting him come back. If he had just been caught by the failed test and apologized in front of the team and that was the end of it, they would have let him come back. But he ended up lying twice about the whole thing, first to a reporter who had the story and then with the fake website designed to deceive MLB. It just got too weird.

The majority of the roster was glad to be rid of him because of the way he handled the whole mess. It’s no accident that the team clicked after he left. Their winning percentage went way up and they ran away with the division. It would be silly to mess with that now.
Along with Cain’s perfect game, my fave memory of the regular season was how everybody said the Dodgers would take over the division after Mekly left and Joaquin Arias went down there right after the suspenion and hit like .450 with a couple of huge homers in a series sweep. It was awesome.

Either way, they don’t have to be fair to Melky.

IMO this has a lot to do with him turning tail and running after he was suspended and not addressing his teammates. I seem to remember reading about that at the time and they were fairly pissed.

I was just addressing the fact that people think the Giants are a fine upstanding organization because of this.

Total bullshit. Melky is just a prick and they don’t care for him or his antics.

And I’ll bet chemistry has improved on that team since he left – and the players damn sure know it.

I’m no Mota fan, but there’s already been enough said about how his situation and Melky’s are different. I’d be happiest if BOTH of them were not on the roster. I’m sure there’s SOMEONE better than Mota, but at this point, it’s nitpicking. As for who’s a good DH? Sandoval…with Arias at third.

It’s not hard to get him live pitching — he could have played in the NLCS while the team was giving away at bats to Aubrey Huff. Heck, the Tigers managed to hold scrimmages, couldnt the Giants do the same for Melky with their instructional leagues?

Indeed. Why did they welcome back Guillermo Mota with open arms and place him on the postseason roster while coming off his second PED suspension? This is an aging, sub-par middle, eminently fungible middle reliever we're talking about, not the guy who led the majors in hitting this year.

They have known steroid users on their team. How is that not hypocritical? Melky served his punishment and suspension…you dont keep punishing someone (and one should note the team and fans) after the agreed upon punishment is up.

I don’t know…seems to me like he juiced, was punished, and should be allowed to continue to do what he was doing before the punishment. While the Giants will say they don’t want to mess around with the chemistry, Melky should be pissed because, like I said, he served his MLB-imposed 50 game suspension and should be placed on the WS roster provided he is one of the 25 best players.

But at the same time, I don’t feel sorry for Melky…he did what he did. But then, after typing that, the other side of me thinks that he did his crime and served his time and he is still being punished. Seems just a tinge unfair.

Who cares if it is fair to Ol Melky? It’s UNFAIR to their fans. The Giants have a duty to put themselves in the best possible position to win. When they shift to the AL, their DH candidates are putrid. Sure, it could help them slide Panda to DH (however he isnt an abhorrent fielder). Melky is a real bat…it’s nuts not to use him, and as Frenchy pointed out, they have no problem employing and utilizing past steroid users…it’s just stupiud.

The Giants already have a big problem on their hands when it comes to steroids and the way their team is perceived to handle offenders (BARRY BONDS).

This is a GOOD decision to leave him off the roster. Dude hasn’t had live MLB pitching in like 3 months. Who is to say that he would have been useful anyway?

I’m sure he will, personally I believe he deserves one. His departure was bitter but he played a huge role in this team for more than half of the season.
