This is the beginning of the end for this era in Yankees baseball.
Rivera will retire…there is now no doubt about that.
A-Rod will be gone next year…no one in New York wants him back.
Jeter will retire too…the Yankees without Rivera & A-Rod will not be even close to winning a series, so why rehab all the way back to a 3rd place team?

This will all happen before Christmas:

Rivera & Jeter retire.
A-Rod gets traded.
There is even talk in NY about replacing Girardi.
This Yankees team is *done*.

First of all I think Mo is going to test that knee out real soon, (if he hasn’t already). If he feels he can perform to his stanard he will try to get a deal done. Never say never, but if he can’t fit into the Yankess scheme (LOL) then I would say he retires. I really can’t see him putting on another uniform, especially if his rights to #42 go away if he signs with another club. (Nt sure if the exception belongs to him or the Yankees) If this rumor was started by anyones agent, it was Soriano’s not Mo’s. If you are Soriano you want the Yankees bidding against themselves when you opt out. And lastly- People its just a blog-can’t we all just get along.

Mariano’s earned a little over $159 million in his career, so it won’t be a money decision. I just hope it’s also not an ego decision. If he can play, and genuinely wants to play, then play. If he wants to spend time with his family, retire, and we’ll see you in 5 years at that Cooperstown thing they do every year.

No Church. The Panic that quite possibly the greatest Closer in history will not be around for the 2nd consecutive year. Allen Craig is a solid baseball player who is only going to get better.
Yet…when Albert left I almost pissed my pants. Yeah…zero worries.

You didn’t write a best seller; you wrote a subtle put down of the Yankees.

On one hand you respect Rivera, on the other hand if his potential absence induces panic in the Yankees organization, you’ll enjoy it.

Basically, Church called you a moron. Yankeesgameday called you a troll, and, in essence, I labeled you an airhead.

Apparently, three people exactly understood what you meant and you didn’t understand what you wrote, so clearly reading comprehension is something that you need to work on.

Really, you should look into taking a remedial writing course.

Even as a Red Sox fan, I would miss seeing # 42 come in to the game. He has always been great to watch and is a true competitor. Between him and Jeter, they are really the Yankees of this generation. Mantle , Yogi, and Maris were the big boys of my generation.

No, probably the fact that Soriano is nearly guaranteed to at the very least exercise his option, and chances are unless he gets a guarantee to be the closer, he’s not resigning. Yanks are a stepping stone for him, always were. He never really seemed to love NY, or even like it for that matter.

Such a class act, it would be sad to see him retire. Amazing pitcher. The fact that every single batter he’s ever faced new exactly what pitch was going to be thrown each and every time makes his career that much more impressive. He threw one pitch, but damn was it a good one.

What panic would this incite? the fact that Soriano had essentially a slightly worse Rivera season? That the Yanks could replace the greatest closer in history for 5/6 months and not skip a beat? That if Rivera decides to retire, and Soriano heads to greener pastures, the Yanks would save about $30M?

I know that it is never going to happen, but with everything I have read about Rivera and his time spent on and off the field, there is simply no reasonable case to be made for not voting for him for the HOF. I hate that dumb “no 100% EVAR” tradition.
