Ozzie Guillen shockingly had “not much to say” after being fired by Marlins

Ozzie Guillen was fired by the Marlins yesterday one season into a four-year, $10 million contract. That wasn’t a surprise given all the speculation about his job being in jeopardy for months now, but Guillen’s subdued reaction was pretty shocking.

Guillen, who was going back to his home in Chicago, told reporters that he didn’t want to do a lengthy interview, so Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald exchanged text messages that included the following:

I don’t have much to say. No matter what I say, people are going to believe what they want to believe. That’s why I’m going to stay away. … I know some people are on my side. They should because I don’t think it was the right decision. But they have the right to do whatever they have to do.

Who are you and what have you done with the real Ozzie?!

Meanwhile, the Marlins have started looking for a new manager and longtime catcher Mike Redmond has emerged as a leading candidate.

Bobby Valentine should have followed the same path and said little to nothing. While I doubt Ozzie gets another managing gig anytime soon I’d say his chances are better than Valentine.

    Not much to say…yet.

Hope the Red Sox do well with John Farrell.

Only drag is that it spoils my sick, twisted fantasy of the next TV game show:

“Audience, we’ve secretly switched the managers of the Marlins and Red Sox…”

Or we could go with the hilarious suggestion one commenter recently made:

    “Here Comes Ozzie Boo Boo”

maybe the marlins will get bobby valnitine

So when is Bob Costas going to sit down with Manny Acta on “Costas Now” and discuss why the Indians fired Manny? How about Brad Mills? Come on guys, fair enterprise, here. Think of the ratings.

Costas: “Why do you think the Indians fired you Manny?”
    Manny” “Because we stunk.”

    Ratings right there, do it.

They should do a debate between Guillen and Valentine with Costas as the mediator. Have them discuss Twitter, Castro, French Tourists and being thrown under buses by their own staff. It would be a wonderful trainwreck.

Hopefully I didn’t just give ESPN an idea for a new baseball tonight segment.

Actually, that would be an entertaining hour of TV. I’d watch it just to see how many times the network would have to censor Ozzie. That 7 second rule was designed for him…LOL

  5. albertmn - Oct 25, 2012 at 2:40 PM

Maybe he had a clause in his contract that would make him lose money if he badmouths the team after being fired. That would make even Ozzie shut his mouth (at least for a while).

Redmond sure looks like the frontrunner from down here, and as an ex-Feesh not named Mike Lowell (who says he doesn’t want the job) or Jeff Conine (who says he doesn’t want the job), Redmond seems to have the inside track. The Feesh just need to find some minority candidate to navigate the gauntlet of pointless interviews that satisfy MLB’s voyeuristic fascination with humiliating the swarthy, and they can have their bargain-priced manager while they run off the balance of Slobbering Ozzie’s contract.

The best thing the marlins ever did was to fire that LiL punk guillian hopefully he will be
manageing in the Mexican league next year
lmao. I couldn’t even watch the marlins play
this year because of that stupid LiL idiot Mexican.

    • Old Gator - Oct 25, 2012 at 4:44 PM

He’s Venezuelan, and you’re demonstrably as big an idiot as he is. Your English is incoherent and your spelling is atrocious, just like his. Of course, since he knows where he’s from and you don’t, I think we can argue that you’re actually the bigger idiot.

      • protius - Oct 25, 2012 at 5:10 PM

No, actually you’re the bigger idiot, you drunken, sanctimonious pig.

Who do you think you are? The guy made a mistake about Guillen’s country of origin and you think that that gives you the right to berate him? BTW, what is he doing that you haven’t done a hundred times yourself, i.e., remorselessly bash Guillen.

Supposedly, you edit books, and that gives you the right to demean a person, who does not edit books, for making a few grammatical mistakes? How pompous are you?

Drinking and posting comments on the Internet don’t mix.

If life has not been good to you, and you need to vent your spleen, then go somewhere else; your self righteousness is getting old and tiresome.

      • Old Gator - Oct 25, 2012 at 5:38 PM

Ahhh, it’s always so refreshing to see you throwing one of you little fanged baby tantrums – kinda like the outtakes from It’s Alive that were deemed too offensive for the teenagers in the audience.

I suppose you didn’t sniff the not-quite subliminal current of racism in exibitsman’s post? Or is it precisely that element that attracts you to him so strongly?

    • vallewho - Oct 25, 2012 at 6:14 PM

Calling Ozzie a “LiL idiot Mexican” is the personification of mental midgetry. Is he really the reason you couldn’t watch the Miami Marlins this year?

    • protius - Oct 25, 2012 at 6:47 PM

Sorry, you drunken pig, you can’t wiggle out of this one.

If you meant to rebuke exibtsman for racism, then you should have made that the focal point of your arguments. Instead, your comments are about his being an idiot, because his ” English is incoherent”, his “spelling is atrocious”, and he doesn’t know where Ozzie Guillen is from. And what makes your blatant racism any different from exibtsman’s subliminal racism?

You have gone on and on about “slobbering Ozzie” for years. You have repeatedly bad mouthed him for his poor English and his unsophisticated, unamerican mannerisms. Your brand of racism is the same as exibtsman’s.

You’re HBT’s version of Ted Striker, i.e., you’ve been traumatized by some event in your life, but you’d like to land that plane and regain some of your lost dignity.

Sorry Shirley, but lying and misdirection don’t cancel out the written word. You wrote it, it’s there for everyone to see, now man-up and wear it.

      • Old Gator - Oct 25, 2012 at 8:42 PM

Despite your infantile proclivity for puttering together and immolating straw men – which, really, is the semantic equivalent of lighting farts – you’re actually adorable when you’re apoplectic.

      • protius - Oct 25, 2012 at 9:07 PM

        You’re a despicable, drunken racist.

      • Old Gator - Oct 25, 2012 at 10:01 PM

And you are just too adorable for words. My grandma would have bitten your tushy.

  8. schmedley69 - Oct 25, 2012 at 3:46 PM

Thought for sure they would be bringing Trader Jack back for his 8th tour of duty as manager.

    • Old Gator - Oct 25, 2012 at 4:45 PM

They were planning to, until the Chihuahua showed Scrooge McLoria the tab for leasing the respirator and defibrillator.

  9. edelmanfanclub - Oct 25, 2012 at 7:29 PM

He’s an idiot for those castro comments, and i dont think he’ll manage after that and the marlins year this year, he’s not a bad manager and I like him when he’s in baseball because he isn’t afraid to open his mouth. I don’t think we’ll see him for a while. My favorite Ozzie quote has to be his response to anything AJ Pierznyski says. Which is … “I don’t give an shit what AJ says”
