"Who knows what that adds up to, but removing Valentine from the equation is like getting rid of a deadly poison. That immediately makes you better."

Except that Valentine was suppose to be the antidote for Francona. Remember him, .. he seemed like a "like a decent guy" too, until the RS flamed out in Sept 2011 and then he was, according to unnamed sources in the RS FO, a distracted drug abuser incapable of controlling his players. And, as was pointed out by Cur one significant screw up and the whispers about his "lax" managerial style will resurface. Then the Nation will once again raise torch and pitchfork and march through the streets.

Regardless, unless the current GM does a better job than the previous one of signing FA talent it won't matter anyway.

As a Mets fan, Mr. Valentine had a few good seasons as well as getting to the World Series in 2000. However, they made many mental mistakes during the series (especially in the first game) and as a result lost the series 4 games to none. But soon after that the Mets players stopped communicating with Bobby and he was soon fired. He should have stayed in Japan or as a broadcaster. Dont think hell be rehired again by a major league team.

Valentine came off as a giant douche in the interview (which was horribly conducted by Costas who tossed soft ball after soft ball and even said he thought Valentine saying Youkilis wasn't as mentally or physically invested as he was in the past "innocuous"....seriously, who thinks saying a player doesn't care as much or train as hard as he used to is innocuous?)

Valentine never once took the blame (he said everything was his fault...then proceeded to blame everyone else). He made up an endless string of bullshit in order to blame everyone but himself.

The saddest thing about the show (I continued to watch after the Valentine "interview"), was the level of inept overl-moralizing shown by Costas and Brennan when discussing Lance Armstrong. Brennan actually said that what Roethlisburger did (rape a woman in a bathroom while an off-duty cop guarded the door to prevent anyone from interrupting) wasn't as big a deal because it didn't affect performance.....then she went on to say that until Armstrong came clean in a multi-hour interview, he should never be heard from again....AND that if he admitted to doping he'd likely be forgiven (you know, like everyone said about McGuire, except that after he admitted things, the attitude against him hardened rather than softening).

If he was going to be manager of the Red Sox, wouldn't he have asked Lucchino/Cherington, "ummmm, guys......don't I get to handpick all of my own coaching staff, especially my right hand man?" If they told him no, he should have walked away or demanded the right to do that.

I guess none of that matters now.

I don't know if Farrell is the answer or not and the Red Sox have an entire roster to rebuild, but it does seem for the first time in 14 months, there are at least some positive vibes emanating out of that place, which is a nice change. Farrell seems like a decent guy, as opposed to Valentine and his odd, passive-aggressive, borderline psychotic personality, the Ortiz situation is far more amicable this year, it's obvious the GM and manager are singing from the same songbook and they have a zillion dollars to spend thanks to the Dodgers being crack fiends.

Who knows what that adds up to, but removing Valentine from the equation is like getting rid of a deadly poison. That immediately makes you better.

I have to feel for Beanbag fans (despite what a bunch of backstabbing, sycophantic slugs seem run their team) after this fiasco, having endured something similar - if not generally as virulent - down here in the Banana Dystopia of Macondo this season mercifully past.

That said, the local spawrtsrighters and spawrts tork raydeeo hosts down here keep mentioning the "possibility" that Bobby V might be a candidate to replace the euthanized Slobbering Ozzie because of his "long friendship" with Scrooge McLoria. Ain't happenin' here, gents. Bobby skirmished hard with the Chihuahua and Teflon Larry on two separate occasions when Old Moneybins was toying with the idea of hiring him, and those episodes left a bad taste on everyone's pedipalps. You can kick a corpse all you want, boyo, but without electrodes and a thunderstorm you ain't bringing it back to life.
