Much ado about nothing. What’s Cabrera going to say that everyone doesn’t already know? He just would have spewed cliches like every other athlete. “Both teams played hard.” “Tomorrow is another day.” We’ll get ‘em tomorrow.” “Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains.” There, interview over.

The only people making this a big deal is the media themselves, no one else.

“Games” is the operative word there. I want to read info on who’s playing and trade info, etc. I don’t mind some other posts (I enjoy them) but I don’t feel in any way entitled to statements by the players. What they do on the field is my main interest. FYI, when Hardball Talk links to interviews w/ players, I never go and read them. I pretty much use this blog as a filter.

Gonna be a long offseason. They always are. This one more so as the WS has been a letdown compared to the NLCS. Mind you the ALCS had the glory of seeing The Mighty Empire defeated in 4 straight and sent home in disgrace, so it had that going for it.

But maybe its us? We wanted too much. Could be, I guess. Did we want so much, though? Was 7 games so much to ask for? I mean, in conversation with my friends, what did we want? If I recall what we talked about was a tight competitive series, lots of runs scoring with pitching duels alternating for preference. We wanted unlikely heroes and walk-off 19inning magic at least once. We wanted Verlander to be Verlander, Miggy to be Miggy, Fieder to be…well to be Panda, frankly. Its like the Giants heard us and the Tigers…what? Overdosed on Nyquil? Ate too much turkey? At least hit for regular season team average, for Dog sake (right around .280 for qualified hitters) instead of .229. Is that so much? Just once?

Well Drew Silva- I guess you are having problems doing your job so I will help.

Why talk about Pujols at all when the real story is the Cabrera pulled this back in Game 3 or 4 against the A’s during the playoffs. Octovio Dotel was upset at Cabrera for shirking his responsibility then.

The real story is Dotel and other tigers ARE UPSET at this selfish behavior and it is probably going to create tension in the clubhouse right now.

How do you have a job reporting on baseball and you miss this when doing the story???

I am a fan and the fans through buying tickets, buying licensed merchandise and watching TV pay the huge salaries that Cabrera and other pro athletes earn. Without the fans how much would Cabrera be making? The fans are interested in hearing about the games from the players but cannot talk to them. (Obviously it would be impossible for every fan who is interested to talk to players.) So the media represents the fans. By snubbing the media a player is snubbing the people who make his income and lifestyle possible. If he wants that income and that lifestyle he should be able to put up with the questions – even if they are stupid – in good times and bad. Exhibit A who comes to mind is Brad Lidge who spoke to the media when he was perfect in ’08 and he spoke to the media when he was far from perfect in ’09. (Sports Illustrated did an article about his class act conduct that year.)

Dude, if answering questions from reporters counted as leadership, Pete Rose would be the greatest leader of all time. Missing one session hardly negates one’s role on a team. You don’t even know why he missed. it. But then again, I never watch/read the after-game interviews, so I could care less and wouldn’t hold it against anyone…even if they skipped after winning.
