Why not bring him back? Leyland is a good baseball guy, who makes the game better.

And I would pretty much line up with Paper. I also think that is what Leyland tries to do.

Without more input I can’t really comment but it could be that in Leyland’s eyes Inge was just gonna keep hacking anyway. Consider that the Manager may not give the same advice to every player. And anyway no manager is perfect. You can take the view that an average manager will commit X amount of mistakes and great manager will make very few of them, while a bad one will make more. You can also take the paper lion view that your best manager is the one that costs you the least amount of games.

I kinda liked Leyland until a read an piece a few years back where he was telling Inge to keep hacking and not worry about strikeouts. Since then, I’ve begun to question is moves more and more. Personally, I was hoping for a change – but I’m not surprised by this either.

He has been regarded as a solid baseball man for many years and his team just played in the World Series. You may not have liked the results, but I don’t think Leyland struck out a single time in the Series.

They could choose to go in a different direction, but I don’t know why they would.

It makes sense. This will be a substantially similar team coming back next season and there is no better person than Leyland to manage it.

Sure it does, but then again Tigers management made it clear from the get go they wanted Leyland back. You make it sound like the Tigers were weighing their options. In reality they were waiting for Leyland to figure out if he wanted to keep managing in baseball or retire.

I am actually happy the Leyland is coming back. The players all seem to like him, he did get the team to the World Series this year, and I can’t think of any available managers that would be a good fit in Detroit.

The team will have some improvements in the offseason – Young & Valverde likely gone, Victor Martinez coming back, and what ever other FA or trades are made this team have another successful year (hopefully with 4 more wins in the postseason).
