Wouldn’t that be interviewing the dysfunctional about their interview with other dysfunctionals?

Statheads: We need a new acronym to account for advice garnered from questionable sources.

I like Larry Bowa. If he gets the job, I hope he actually gets the chance to turn the team around.

Do we have any data on his early life? Do we know how good a swimmer he is…as in upstream?

I don’t know if Bowa is friendly with Bobby Valentine, but he could do worse than to chat with him about Valentine’s experiences being interviewed by Scrooge, the Chihuahua and Teflon Larry. That ought to put the kibosh on any inclination Bowa might have to vacate the commentator’s stool.

Larry Bowa “had good time exhanging ideas” with the Marlins.

Translation:

Larry Bowa suggested many steps to improve the franchise (which, seeing how things are going right now, could’ve been submitted by chimps banging on a computer keyboard).

The Marlins listened, and then made it seem like they’ll either:

1. Listen intently, and then ignore the ideas immediately, like they always do when making this choice – or
2. Listen intently, hire Larra Bowa, and then ignore his ideas and pull the rug out from under him –

Like they always to when making THAT choice.

Either way, Larry Bowa had a good time exchanging ideas with them.

Hopefully, for him, he’ll decide that was enough, and stay way the fuck away from the Marlins.

The same qualities that made Bowa a perennial overachiever and ultimate success as a player hurt him as a manager–intensity 24/7 and demanding the absolute best from yourself day in and day out.

I loved him when he played for the Phillies but as a manager it was futile. I can still hear him during televised games with the help of the field mics mercilessly getting on the home plate umpire in the first inning of almost every game for no other reason except maybe…he was Larry F**king Bowa.

Sit at the desk at ESPN or MLBTV Larry. Share your knowledge with us, but don’t manage again. I love you…but it will not turn out well.

There's really only one "antagonistic" media member in Macondo, Linda Robertson of the Macondo Harold, our major local Feeshwrapper. However, since she doesn't like anybody and rarely has anything interesting to say that she hasn't stolen from someone else, nobody takes her very seriously down here. Being attacked in print by Linda Robertson is kinda like having Buck Brown's granny try to pick you up at a SoBe singles bar.

The blather on Macondo spawrts tork raydeeo and in the local spawrts press continues to give the edge to Mike Redmond as next skeepper of the Feesh. Redmond, who gets good grades for his baseball smarts from commentators, likely gets higher ones for how cheaply he can be had from Scrooge McLoria. Bowa won’t sign for beans. And for all the talk of feistiness and spirit, Scrooge wants an independent-minded (much less expensive) manager who would be all too happy to tell him to take his meddling and gouache his pastiche with it like he wants the Chihuahua to hump his leg in public.

Based on my years of community theater, I think it works this way–

If you think you nailed an interview (or audition), you didn’t. If you think you blew it, you did. If you’re not sure, you may be in good shape.

I’m no expert, but I think what the Marlins need is someone who keeps his mouth shut, quietly guides his players, and shields them from the more antagonistic media members and, in this case, the entire front office. I don’t think Larry Bowa fits that bill.

Bowa got to “exchange ideas” with the Astros, too, early on. I imagine the Marlins were extending a courtesy.

Maybe they need Bowa’s brand of feistiness? Also, Ozzie kind of started on the wrong foot with those Castro comments. I don’t think he got settled in. Whatever the Marlins do though they seriously need to stop the Manager Carousel. Commit to a guy for 3 years at least.
