The Rays had a first baseman who could hit, he plays for the Indians now. Damon and Kotchman should have both been back instead of the 2 busts – Scott and Pena. Keppinger could play 1st every day.

I would be happy to get anyone who can hit. A pull hitter who doesn’t succumb to any defensive shift and doesn’t strike out 200 times a year. I’m going to put that on my Christmas wish list this year. I don’t want to lose Shields–he’s a very good pitcher and still a bargain at that price–but we have an abundance of pitching. We need hitting.

Shields isn’t going anywhere. Didn’t the Giants just win with pitching? They had some clutch hitting too, but other than Sandovol, no one there is great. Though I still wish we would have selected Posey a few years back.

They will shop him. Just ask Gio and Trevor Cahill what happens when you sign for more money than the team usually absorbs. The good news for Shields is twofold. That money is his to keep regardless, and he’ll probably end up on another pretty good-or better-team.
