Besides, the numbers I mentioned are annual. 110 MM$ every year, without attendance, concessions or product placement. I know the partners want to recoup their investments, but they had better invest in their product.

No, it's a simple question of marketing. They can't expect any kind of attendance if they make no effort to offer a decent product on the field. I'm not talking superstars; I am talking #3 pitchers, journeyman corner outfielders who at least can hit a little with a little power. They can be players who won't hold up development. But they had the worst ERA and the lowest outfield OPS in the majors last year. Settling for an indefinite performance in that range is not acceptable. If they don't at least try; they can't count on me as a fan.

It would take at least half of what you're proposing per year to pay a veteran superstar enough to come play for them. Until they crack .500 on a season, no one is going to want to come play for them out of free agency. They have to build from within and then sell a big name in free agency on what they have coming up before they're actually going to be able to have a core good enough to build around. Settle in, fellow Astros fans, the next few years are going to be long and arduous.

How many guys do they have not actually making the MLB minimum? I know they have to send some money to help with a couple of old contracts. But I'd be surprised if the base is over 20MM$. When you consider they will get 80 MM$ for the new broadcast agreement with Comcast and about 30 MM$ for the MLB agreement, it's time for them to start investing in some playing ability.
