What "attitude" are you talking about? Those of us who watch Yankee games a lot see him putting out maximum effort on every play. He is a consummate team player as evidenced by the fact that at 38 he stole 13 bases and took 51 walks. He runs the bases hard on every play, even on obvious outs and works on his game as hard as anyone in baseball. It's not his work ethic that might make a team reluctant to take him, it's his ability to put the ball squarely on the bat as he has aged that is the problem. Having said that, if he is able to avoid injury next year I would not be surprised to see him rebound in a big way. You should stop reading the gossip and start watching the game.

How about calling Magic Johnson, and taking Adrian Gonzales and Carl Crawford off their hands for A-Rod. Platoon Texeira and Gonzo at 1st/DH.

mkd Let's say you have a serious heart condition and need an operation.
mkd GET BACK TO ME after you have been in business for 50 years and have had to hire, fire, dozens of workers, work with them encourage them, listen to their sob stories, hold their hands, give them bonuses for good work and suspend them for gross negligence, etc and at the same time look over their shoulders every minute as to how their actions affect sales and customers and then write your sob story about Rodriguez. Rodriguez does not deserve the $350,000,000 he now has. One of my sales people showed up drunk and he was sent home with the warning, that was his only chance. If one of my workers was on drugs, he would be immediately fired. Rodriguez used illegal drugs. He did not have a prescription for the drugs and illegally obtained them. Check the U.S. drug laws on obtaining medicines. RODRIQUEZ CHEATED TO GET THE QUARTER BILLION DOLLAR SALARY FROM TEXAS! I KNEW THE YANKEES WERE GOING TO GET HIM! I knew he would flame out. Without drugs to soup him up he is an average third baseman. I am unaware what drugs he used and what the side effects are after he stopped using them. I do know that what we are seeing is the real side of Rodriguez, a spoiled cheater who chokes and needed stimulants to produce his good years. Baseball wanted to fill the seats and turned a blind eye. This problem already happened in horse racing and that is why blood samples are taken from every horse that wins, places and shows to test for drugs for the last 40 years and why ARMSTRONG was stripped of his medals and awards.
I loved major league baseball, and I am opposed to suspensions. I want immediate, permanent ejections and repayment of all salaries. That will stop drug use in its tracks.
The money Rodriguez got using drugs should be returned to baseball and put in a fund for little leagues, and baseball programs to find and develop real talent.
Perhaps you applaud Rodriguez taking photo ops with Warren Buffet on the baseball grounds of Yankee Stadium. You want to ask Rodriguez how many shares of Warren Buffet's $130,000 per share Berkshire Hathaway stock Rodriguez has? You applaud and want to sanction Rodriquez's cheating? Can you restore the credibility of baseball and wipe out all the records that were created by cheating players who used drugs?
Take that and piss in your hat!

Would anyone be surprised if ARod has a relatively healthy season and hits .300/30/100? I wouldn't. Health is really the big concern now, and he avoided the chronic stuff this past season (broken hand is not a result of his body breaking down). Older players than ARod have had great seasons, and the argument could be made that ARod is a better player than most of them.

The Phillies have been looking for production out of 3B since forever. But ARod is only 13 HR's away from the first bonus for milestone HR's. His 2013 salary is $28 million + $6 million when he hits 660 HR's. How much of that are the Yankees willing to pay? Is someone expecting them to pick up half?

There is nothing I love more than the argument that men who have spent their entire lives in competitive sports simply lose their desire to dominate on the field the minute they get paid. As if there nothing else in there that motivates them to excel besides money. I know baseball is a business, but I'm not talking about that part. I'm talking the part where to be that good you have to be temperamentally obsessed with being the best at whatever you do.

But even if you don't believe that, Alex Rodriguez once got a $250 million contract and then won 3 MVPs so you're argument still sucks.

The thing I can't say I have heard from all the folks that want to dump A-rod is who is going to play those 120-130 games at third base? Nunez...he is going to just be a SS acording to the latest team info. Chavez? If he doesn't retire he might last through 60-80 starts,if they're lucky, and don't forget he is the backup 1B now, if he resigns since everyone is so sure Swisher should go. So once again I ask (keeping in mind the Yankees do not have the package to land the much talked about Headly) who is playing third if you find someone to take A-rod?

Why would any team want Rodriguez? I looked it up and he has a financial net worth of $350,000,000. If that is not a disincentive to put out extra effort then nothing is. When you have that amount of money and guaranteed another $100,000,000+ just for showing up at the stadium, would anyone with his attitude put out 100%, 80%, 50%? Hell he just has to put on a uniform and stick his hand out every week for his check, no matter what he does.

After the 2011 season, some surmised that the Phils would need until 2015 or 2016 to fully return to prominence (at least I did). Then last year's roster construction (?) convinced me. This would push that timetable back to 2018 or 2019 by the time all these long-term contracts are gone, and there is more than $10mm to spend on the "bottom" 18 or 19 players on the roster.

This fan pleads, DO NOT DO THIS!

The Phillies need to figure out what they're doing. Are they going all out for a championship or are they rebuilding. I don't think just trying to get by enough to make the coin flip game is going to be very successful. Signing Cole Hamels long term tells me that they're not rebuilding, but they still have several holes. All of the outfield spots are unsettled, as well as 3B. The bullpen's a mess. What they do have set is an aging group of former stars. They still have so much money locked in to this roster that I don't really see them going all out after Greinke or Hamilton. Aside from those two, the free agent market is fairly thin. Also, I'm not sure that they have the prospects to go out and substantially improve the team. It was a great run by the core of that team but I think that Phillies fans should prepare themselves for perpetual mediocrity.

Probably the Yankees, since they already have 1B and DH pretty much locked up for a while, and they'd be making a big hole at 3rd. The Phils might not want to do it either, because of Howard's popularity and A-Rod's contract.

I think of my beloved Fightin's just a few years ago when all the news was good, and the term dynasty was thrown around like shaving cream after another big win after win. When Ryan Howard knew the difference between a ball and a strike...
