The Indians had to resign the guy after what they invested in him./ For goodness sakes, his option was lower them Carmona/Hernandez.

But is there is a worse starting pitcher in MLB that is on no danger of being sent to the minors, someone is going to have to point that out.

Did you see the big name coaches the Indians just signed?

In addition to spending money to try to get players, you have to either:

1) sign them as free agents which means they pick your offer over offers from other teams, or

2) you trade for the player(s) which means you have something to trade that another team wants.

Why Terry Francona went to the Cleveland Indians is going to be a question people ask for years. His legacy is going to suffer for sure.

Why would you think they’ll spend that money?

They had the worst attendance in MLB last year and are going to be worse this coming year. Their TV ratings and merchandise sales are down.

Why would they keep the same budget when they lost money in 2012 and will have even less revenue in 2013?

This isn’t the government.

actually the Ubaldo pick up was a surprise since he has been horrific since he got here and makes to much money for the Dolans

I guess $5 million is low enough. But it’s really not. Jimenez stinks. His fastball velocity has dropped the last 3 years and is now more than 3+ mph below ’09 when he was averaging above 96. His ERA+ of 72 and 77 and 30 total losses the last two years should be enough to cut your losses and give anyone else a chance.

Cleveland is in BIG trouble if they don’t take full advantage of all this money coming off the books. Terry Francona isn’t going to put up with a shit roster for too long.

This is where I would typically make a comment about the Dolan’s being cheap. These were the easy moves plus getting rid of Sizemore and Kotchman. They now have $33 million to spend (Sizemore $5m last year and Kotchman $3m). Thats close to one-half of the overall payroll budget.

Now lets see how they spend the money. OR dont.
