Why is everyone so sure that they really want to sign him? Because they said so? There are so few quality 3rd basemen in the game today that they could probably get a pretty good return for him, even if he is in his last year of his contract. If you don't think you'll be competitive in the division for another couple years then why sign a guy like Wright just to waste a good chunk of his remaining good years? It wouldn't shock me if the Mets are really just going through the motions for their fanbase with a real desire to say they tried and to then move him. Why does David wright want to waste any more of his prime there? They might have a decent starting staff next year but can they really catch the Nats, Braves , or Philliesif they aren't committed to spending again yet?

Looks like another ESPN stooge just pulling random statements out of his ass to me. To say that Alderson dropped to ball in regards to Reyes is moronic but then again this is ESPN. Of course they weren't alone, the gutless overweight hack on WFAN Mike Francessa said the same thing.

1. Trading Reyes at the deadline in 2011 would've netted a bag of balls because the guy got hurt right before the deadline.

2. Alderson was kept in the dark in regards to what the war chest was. Wilpon kept him in the dark. You can't fault solider when the generals fail to give him resources.

I'm gonna play baseball pundit for a moment (and show how those baseless rumors get started - even though this one isn't completely baseless.)

The Red Sox would be interested in acquiring David Wright if he doesn't work out an extension with the Met's.
