I’m a fan! The kid seems truly appreciative to have the opportunities he’s earned. I remember reading that he cried when he signed his first contract because he never thought he’d ever make that much money. He apparently grew up very poor. What a great AMERICAN story!

Just as you two point out, the “immigration issue” is complex and covers an array of real problems and benefits. But that fact still didn’t prevent you two from voting my initial comment down. Which is kind of a nice symbol of the state of this debate. One can’t even discuss the issue without charges of racism being on the table. I think Romo’s shirt is an example of that, as were your responses.

Or, you can pout. The point is that it’s foolish to suggest someone might not be a citizen or legal resident because they are Hispanic. Some Hispanic families have been here longer than Anglos — and a number of Texans (and others in the SW) are descended from illegal Anglo immigrants.

And, I didn’t even touch the fact that you raised the criminal issue.

During the Christmas/summer period, backpackers are making US$20 per/hr working in Subway in Western Australia!!
Average minimal skill full time job is now basically 40K US.
An average builder/plumber/electrician is on around 70-80K. Ohhhh to be 19 again.

But….you cant buy a house for under 300K, beer is $10/pint in a pub and most of the females you pine for are named ‘Shazza’. Stupid cons.

I am also picking up a T-Shirt Inda. Can’t wait till’ it arrives. My buddies are alwasy cracking on me for “looking Mexican.” Not Spanish mind you…but Mexican.
Jose, Chico, Juan, Sergio…I have been called all of them.
Hell…I once worked with a guy for 3 full years till’ he realized I was a white dude.
And HE was 2/3 Native American! Unreal.

What is the current “immigration problem with Mexico?” There are just as many people crossing the border illegally into the United States as there are crossing the border back into Mexico. We currently have a net illegal immigration rate of 0% as a result of this. Illegal immigrants are a huge part of our economy, and if they weren’t here you’d never eat because all our crops would be rotting in the field.

Romo’s shirt is great because it calls into question the idiotic laws in places like Arizona that allow cops to “check for citizenship.” Like anyone is going to check on the blonde haired blue eyed guy, they are going to check on guys who look like Romo even though they were born in this country.

We don’t have an illegal immigration problem, we have a racism problem. There are problems on the border, the violent drug cartels being the most obvious, but that’s not a problem that gets solved with laws like the one in Arizona, nor will it be solved if we pass “immigration reform” in Obama’s next term.
