He had previously had them checked (and started wearing contacts) shortly after joining the Yankees but yeah, they were talking about sending him back to the eye doctor again.

I don’t know that Ichiro gets on base more than Swisher these day (which I what I saw as the comparison).

My jaded side thinks this could be a ploy to suppress his free agent price tag in his walk year, since a 40 HR left fielder gets paid way less than a 40 HR center fielder.

Either way, it is probably best for the team. Gardner, Granderson and someone like Ichiro or Hunter in right would make a pretty awesome defensive OF.

Actually, Ichiro would get on base more, giving the rest of the Yankees more opportunities to drive in runs.

Granderson gets it done pretty well in CF but he does has some hairy moments. Because of the drop in average this year the Yankees sent him to have his eyes checked. I wonder if the bad reads in CF aren’t also a symptom.

Ichiro in right (due to his arm), Gardner in CF, and Granderson in LF would be a great defensive outfield. It’d be a drop in offense, but a run saved is equivalent to a run scored.

I’m a fan of the grandy man but they”re right he reads the ball way to late the reason he makes so many amazing diving catches is simply because he read the ball late and barely gets to it. gardener is the better choice and its best for the team…get ichiro and you have a better defensive outfield then last year

Granderson gets terrible reads, has serious depth perception issues on balls that are 50/50 on going in or coming back. He needs to be shifted but I don’t see him making a smooth transition tbh.
