“Maybe purely as a second base alternative”- Exactly what I was talking about. They are both very below average hitters, but Casilla is better defensively and he can steal bases. The Orioles were looking for a cheap upgrade at second base, and they got exactly that.

I think the Orioles like Flaherty more than Andino as far as versatility goes. Plus they already have Betemit, who is very inexpensive. Not to mention top 100 prospect Jonathan Schoop is in the minors, and Dan Duquette has been aggressive with call ups in his short tenure in Baltimore.

Yikes, that was sloppy too.

I don’t think Casilla is an upgrade from Andino. Maybe purely as a second base alternative, Casilla is better, but Andino offers more versatility. Casilla struggled at shortstop and has very little experience elsewhere.

Typo? His career BA is .250. Look at it this way: If the Orioles non-tender Robert Andino, they pretty much just upgraded their team for free. Both are expected to make ~$1.8M in arbitration.
