Those “categories” are all fairly useless, which is why people (including every team) developed new and better metrics to evaluate defense.

For the two metrics that are based on play-by-play video review, which actually evaluates where balls were hit and how fielders performed on such plays compared to other players of the positions, Ryan leads quite easily.

He had 27 defensive runs saved to only 18 for Hardy, while Hardy played nearly 300 more innings (in other words, he saved 50% more runs than Hardy on defense despite playing only 80% as much time there. His UZR150 was also far superior: 17.1 to 10.1.

Why are you obsessed with Brenden Ryan? His season was statistically worse than JJ Hardy. He is worse than Hardy in every SS category.
