From Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post:

The Rockies’ managerial search has reached the final four: bench coach Tom Runnells, veteran slugger Jason Giambi, former Rockies shortstop Walt Weiss and current Diamondbacks third-base coach Matt Williams.

Williams is the only one who hasn’t had a formal interview, but that will change Monday when he sits down with owner Dick Monfort, GM Dan O’Dowd and senior vice president of major-league operations Bill Geivett.

The Rockies are expected to come to a decision by the end of the week. There isn’t a clear frontrunner, though Giambi has drawn heavy praise from reporters and team officials alike since the search began.

Jason Giambi or a bag of balls….

They will barely choose Giambi because the balls haven’t been in the humidor long enough. I think the management has been in the thin air of the Rockies too long.

Yet I have a strong feeling Jason is going to get the job. Remember, this is the team that thought it was a great idea to use a 4 man rotation in the thin air of Colorado during part of the season. Even though Matt Williams would be a better choice, at least he has coaching experience.

    Please take back Clint Hurdle.

I would love to see Giambi managing. So would Bruce Boche I suppose.

here’s the thing tho. the rockies have already made it clear they’re going to go forward with the rediculous 75 pitch count for starters and then there’s designated long guys essentially, maybe 2 or 3 of them on staff which narrows bullpen management right down. they essentially need a guy to come fill out the lineup every night and pat guys on the back or chew some ass from time to time. sounds like giambi is plenty capable of that and it kind of puts a young energetic face to the sorry franchise. times are tough here in denver for baseball y’all.

They’ll hire Giambi… and continue to be irrelevant. They’ve proven that it just doesn’t matter.

Rockies = bad baseball operations and bad baseball execution… but decent hotdogs. Save a couple very good players, they’re a VERY reliable perennial flop.

What solid reasoning or facts induce anyone to believe differently?
