Delmon Young pleads guilty to aggravated harassment, gets community service
Nov 7, 2012, 11:05 AM EDT
The 2012 season was kicked off in style as Delmon Young got drunk and walked down a New York street yelling anti-Semitic garbage at people. It became a tabloid sensation in New York and he was charged with a hate crime. The matter has been settled now, however, with a plea that his beef busted down to aggravated harassment, and may be reduced even lower (see below). And he gets some fun community service out of it too:

I haven’t seen the plea, but I just spoke to someone with knowledge of it and it’s apparently a “re-pleader” deal. Which means that if he does his community service as ordered, he will come to court next May and have his conviction reduced to a lesser charge.

Humorously, the Occupy people in my town got actual jail time for standing on the grass after 11:00pm, and Delmon Young gets…it’s a mad, mad, mad, mad world — and not in the funny way. At all.

Is the guy he assaulted suing him?
Oh, what a dumb question. This is America. Of course he is.
Chances are, that’s where the real punishment is going to come in.

Everyone should visit the Museum of Tolerance.

By community service, does that mean he’s forced to spend time playing for the Pirates?

I thought the Museum of Tolerance only existed on South Park….holy crap! It’s real!
