Mark McGwire officially joins Dodgers as new hitting coach

Today the Dodgers made official what was reported last week, announcing Mark McGwire as their new hitting coach.

McGwire replaces Dave Hansen, who was fired as the Dodgers’ hitting coach and then quickly hired by the Mariners to fill the same role.

McGwire spent the past three seasons as the Cardinals’ hitting coach and was consistently praised for the job he did, as the lineup ranked sixth, first, and second among NL teams in scoring under his tutelage.

St. Louis wanted him back in 2013, but McGwire is from California, makes his offseason home there, and wanted to be closer to his family year-round.

St. Louis has already promoted John Mabry from assistant hitting coach to hitting coach as McGwire’s replacement.

Why would you want to leave a team like the cardinals. Great young hitter.

Drugs more readily available and with less scrutiny

Wow, so original. I’ll bet you crack up the old gang at high school reunions, if you made it that far.

I’m guessing Ray that you’re a typical midwest fan, arrogant, even though you’d accuse any one from the northeast of being arrogant, and trying to justify your man crush on McGwire and the Cardinals and trying to bully some one because you’re a bit guilty about rooting for the roid freak.

As for the comments about intelligence and implications about high school, if you’d like we can go one on one, iq points, $50 (or more if you like) per point. I’ll even send you a calculator so you can figure out how much you’re going to owe me if you take the bet, because I’m quite sure you can’t figure it out by yourself.

It is worth noting that was only one Cardinal player that hit better than expected based on his past performance while McGwire was there…and that is Molina, who had been steadily improving every year before McGwire was there as well, so it isn’t clear he had any effect on Yadi either. He didn’t screw anyone up, which was nice….but guys pretty much hit about as well as you would have expected them to.

Still sorry to see him go. The Cardinals bats have been on fire with him at the hitting coach helm.
For whatever reason(s)…he did a good job. If he didn’t have good technique…if he didn’t illustrate things well…if he didn’t have good report with the players dudes wouldn’t travel to California in the off-season to work with him. Which they regularly did prior to him ever being hired as hitting coach.
