Here come the Red Sox trying to compete and make things look at least a little interesting. Note to self: don’t buy Red Sox tickets at face value because this free agent class will ultimately come up short and is only in place to bridge the gap between now and when they will have had so many bad seasons their farm system will be super plentiful in all positions and then they can compete.

Will Pink Hats find Mike Napoli dead sexy? I’m not sure they really care as long as Jacoby is around. When they ultimately get rid of him and trade for Upton in Arizona THEN we’ll all be able to get tickets to see a developing baseball team, pink hats will stay home and worry about their boy Tom Brady.

After the Big Trade with the Dodgers, I opined that the biggest off-season storyline would be, in what direction will the Red Sox go? Will they take the salary dollars they won’t be paying A-Gon and the others, and buy another batch of free agents? Will they rebuild? [Think it will be more of the former than the latter.] Will they be considered “interested” in most any free agent/trade target out there? [Probably.]

For a time, it looked like “will A-Rod be traded?” would be even bigger, but I’m sticking with the Red Sox as the biggest storyline.

LaRoche is a class act. Never said a bad word last winter when rumors were flying about the Nats and Prince Fielder. Routinely took Bryce Harper out after games to a restaurant while other players went to bars… stuff like that.

Napoli, please. Napoli seems to greatly enjoy crushing the ball out of Fenway. I would like to see him do it for the home team. That’s my whole rationale.

Adam LaRoche played something like 6 or 7 games in Boston back in 2008 or 2009, and I remember reading about how bummed the Boston clubhouse was when he was traded away. Apparently he was a very quick good fit back then.

What are these guys looking to get? I would be more inclined to go after LaRoche for the defense and decent 25/90+ HR/RBI average per 162 games for a couple years although both player’s lack of discipline at the plate seems to contradict the focus Boston has said they’re trying to find again.

Last off season with the Red Sox we saw every conceivable free agent pitcher under the sun linked to or being checked on by the Red Sox. With virtually none of them ever making it to the Red Sox. That is unless you count pitchers like Vincente Padilla. Now a new season and a new group of potential free agents and virtually every name under the sun “again” is being linked to the Red Sox in one way or another. Ain’t the off season/preseason great.

If Napoli is trying to get a contract off his 2011 then nevermind. But ill happy give him 2 or 3 years at 8 to 11 million. Even though he had an off year in 2012. 2011 was a career year. I don’t expect him to replicate those number but I do expect him to be a force in the lineup. His stats at fenway a.re absurd also.
