The Red Sox have reached out to Hiroki Kuroda

Nov 8, 2012, 5:00 PM EST

For those of you keeping track, it’s the first full week of the offseason and already the Red Sox have been linked to approximately 79% of all known baseball players, living and dead. Indeed, in the last 24 hours we’ve heard about them and Anibal Sanchez, Mike Napoli, Adam LaRoche, Shin-Soo Choo, Justin Masterson, Justin Upton.  So what’s one more?

Kuroda is definitely an interesting free agent, as he has preferred to do one-year deals and has contemplated returning to Japan in the past.  The Dodgers would definitely want him back. So too would the Yankees.  And the Red Sox have both cash and a need.

How about making things easier and only keep track of the players that the Red Sox have no interest in.

Well the Yankees will find out in about 24 hours if Hiroki Kuroda is going to play the field so to speak. Since the Yankees did offer him a qualifying offer of $13.3MM the next step is Kuroda’s. Either he accepts the offer and re-signs with the Yankees OR see what’s available on the open market. If he goes somewhere else the Yankees get a draft pick.

Cherington is reportedly looking into reanimating Ted Williams to have him play LF.

Bridge Year IV looks like the Sox will find the cheapest way to sign needed players or trade for below average projects. Probably have a 2-year wait for a decent team filled with prospects from farm system.
