The Royals trade pitcher Jeremy Jeffress to the Blue Jays

Jeremy Jeffress

The Jays are making moves today. First signing Maicer Izturis and now acquiring righty Jeremy Jeffress from the Royals, reports Jon Heyman.

Jeffress has played parts of three seasons in the bigs, two with Kansas City and one wit Milwaukee. In that time he has shown that he can throw hard, but that he walks almost as many as he strikes out. He strikes out more and walks fewer in the minors, but he’s by no means a master of control.  He’s a bullpen guy at this point too.

Jeffress has tested positive for “drugs of abuse,” reportedly marijuana, on multiple occasions, serving 50-game and 100-game suspensions while in the minors. So, yeah, there is a sense of damaged goods here.

Seems like a flier, but could wind up being a very good one. Jeffress has great stuff, and is only 25. If he manages to get his sh*t together, he could become a very decent power arm out of the pen.

And I personally don’t mind finding undervalued assets based on behavioral issues, be it Escobar or Rasmus or this guy or whoever. I’ll happily be the Bad News Bears if we can get some good pieces off the scrapheap because organizations think they’re assholes or have problems. Hell, pick us up AJ Pierzynski, Josh Hamilton, Carlos Zambrano, and have Ozzie Guillen manage, and that’s an fing team right there. Of course, it might be a losing team, but if you’re going to go down, go down flippin the bird.

Actually it’s just that he doesn’t know where it’s going. It’s pretty painful to watch him and I have been pulling for him. Also, it is obviously a very straight 100mph.
