Yes, Craig had better numbers. However, LaRoche played in 154 games, Craig 119. I rather suspect the voters took that into account.

Even if you argued that Craig should be rewarded for having better pro-rated stats, your Cards bias blinds you to the obvious choice — someone who didn’t even qualify for the batting championship:

Slightly agree. Who cares that Jeter is the best hitting SS when he is clearly (at least one of) the worst fielding SS? But Gold Gloves are pretty damn pointless too.

Park factor, as seen in the higher wRC+ (145 to 142, despite having a lower wOBA by 6pts). Better counting stats, from more PA. OPS gives too little weight to BB and doesn’t actually add anything. The award is voted upon by players and managers. Need any more reasons?

Stanton’s wOBA was 6th best among all players in MLB (Braun 3rd, McCutchen 7th). If wRC+ is more your thing, just switch McCutchen and Stanton. Jay Bruce, meanwhile had the 53rd best wOBA and 60th best wRC+.

NL OF with a higher wRC+ than Jay Bruce (119) – min 500PA: Braun, McCutchen, Stanton, Me. Cabrera, Holliday, Beltran, Ethier, Fowler, Jones, Car. Gonzalez, Harper, Heyward

Why is this award even voted on?

This award is fairly pointless. You can move your top 3 hitters in the bigs to pretty much any position and they’ll win this award regardless. Gold gloves are actually effected by your defense and therefore directly related to your position.

Headley put up those numbers in PETCO, which is one of, if not the toughest place to hit in baseball.
Headley’s OPS+ was 144, compared to Ramirez’s 137.

Encarnacion split time between DH and First Base, but was clearly, a better slugger than Butler last season and was on a par with Fielder.
