19 homers, 60 rbi’s and .235/.336/409 in 2012; 17 hr’s, 80 rbi’s and .258/.373./.459 in 2011. Made over $12M both those years.

Those numbers are better than Uribe; Punto can’t hit; and Cruz won’t be better than he was last year.

But Youkiliss has shown steady decline for the past 2 years, his defense is subpar and his clubhouse reputation – fairly or not – ain’t so hot.

I guess if you can swing a 2-year deal for around $5M it’s worth a shot, but I’d rather see them go with Ramirez at short and Cruz at third or Ramirez at third and Gordon at short (because let’s not give up on Dee just yet). If neither Cruz nor Gordon can cut it, then there will be a third baseman on the market during the season that the Dodgers can trade for who I’m sure will be no worse and probably better than the YOUK.

The guy who made the Colletti to Minaya comparison is right…the Dodgers don’t have to sign every past his prime player just because ownership is willing to dump cash (for now).

Youkilis is as hard a worker as any in baseball if your going to take a chance on anyone it’s him only thing is he’s better suited at 1st base

The Dodgers may have lots of players who can play third and short, but only one of those players can hit. So it isn’t necessarily illogical to go after Youkilis. Even his poor showing last year was better than what any of the Dodgers’ candidates is likely to produce.

Conventional wisdom seems to be that Youk is done. However, this seems unlikely to me. He was a top power hitter for a number of years before 2012. You have to expect him to be better than last year, and there is at least a decent chance that he will rebound and return to an elite level, in which case he would be a great bargain for whoever signs him.

I sorta promised Gamera the Brave that I’d lay off the ugly jokes about Youkilis for a while, so I will say nothing about having him at third base in Tinseltown would restore the aesthetic balance between the sunsetside beach bodies and the east coast couch potatoettes.
