If Bonderman has a good start in the minors, but there’s no room on the Major League squad for him, I’d bet the Tigers would do him a solid and allow his release to sign with another club…

Forget the rotation, Bonderman is best suited to fill a relief role. He was always a fastball/slider pitcher. The running spring training story line for years was that he finally mastered something off speed, which he never did.

Well, Sanchez may not get the $90mil he wants, so he may stay. Also, Bonderman is 30 now. He may have to settle for being a reliever, in which case, there could be room for him.

Sanchez will not be back next year because he is asking for 90 million. Porcello will probably be traded for a corner outfielder. Which leaves: Verlander, Fister, Max, Smyly, and ?

I can understand that he might be familiar with the Tigers, and may not get a lot of offers. But, if he truly wants to try to get back to the majors, wouldn’t he be better off trying to get any sort of deal with a team that has more need for starters? The odds of him cracking the rotation in Detroit are pretty slim. But, there have to be at least half a dozen teams with 3-4 rotation spots not yet claimed (such as the Twins). Don’t know if those teams are interested, but they would give him a more likely chance to land a spot in the majors if he can pitch well in Spring Training.
