And yet no one has had any problems like you describe at first, second, SS or third due to turf at Skydome. Given your extensive sports background I’d say you were always going to blow out an ankle. Just your bad luck it happened on AstroTurf.

Reyes played a full season last year. He spent significant time injured while on the Mets, playing on grass only, all of it lower body related. He might actually be better off on Skydome’s consistent surface and off that treacherous grass one. As far as I can see it wasn’t doing him any good at all, injury wise.

Mets NEED a young, powerful, right-handed outfielder right now. If Stanton makes enough of a stink, he may be on the move as well. I don’t like the idea of the Mets trading either Harvey or Wheeler (2 front of the rotation, MLB-ready prospects), but I would gladly give one of them, Jon Niese, Lucas Duda, and their choice of 1 or 2 mid-level pitching prospects in return for Stanton. Hell, I’d drive either Wheeler or Harvey down to Miami for the Mets if they could get Stanton. Many Mets fans are going to whine about this far-fetched possibility (my fellow Mets fans have a habit of seriously overvaluing prospects; not overrate, but overvalue), but this is something Sandy should look into. This would show that he is serious about building a contender in 2014. Unfortunately, as I mentioned, this is far-fetched for a couple reasons, not the least being that the Mets are incompetent when it comes to acquiring talent. Additionally, should Stanton become available, I am pretty sure every team in baseball would be interested, led by the Yankees with their need for an OF & stockpile of talented prospects, and the Marlins may not be too keen on trading a possible future hall of famer to an in-division rival.

As a side note… I hope Jose is loving his decision to go to Miami. He now finds himself on a foreign team with very little following in the US when for a little less money he could’ve been still playing in the best city in the world, New York. The Jays are still stuck in the 1980′s with their astro-turf field & Jose has a history of nagging leg issues. Those who have played sports on astro-turf in the past know that the surface is very unforgiving on your legs. I played numerous years of football (pop, HS, college), and 1 game on astro-turf, not even a full game but 3 1/2 qtrs, resulted in me completely blowing out my right ankle & have 3 surgeries to fix it. Jose is going to find it very difficult to stay healthy while playing 81 games on that satanic surface.

The Marlins’ problems did not include Josh Johnson, Mark Buehrle, or Jose Reyes. Those guys played well enough; all three were pretty close to their career norms. They can definitely help the Jays win.

Emilio Bonifacio and Black Hole Buck were bad, so it’s nice for the Feesh to get rid of them and their contracts. Can’t imagine they’ll spend much time on the field in Toronto.

I feel your pain, OG. At least we had the cold comfort that McClain didn’t want bad teams in Houston, he just couldn’t always judge competent help. That’s a malicious little low life you have there in Miami.

The sad part, as I’m sure you know, is that Selig will not lift a finger. We have experience of that over here, too.

There have already been rumors on spawrts tawrk raydeeo that Stanton has privately demanded to be traded. They’re only rumors and we’d hate to see him go, but who can blame him? If his departure meant that the Feesh’s income profile collapsedso completely that it forced Scrooge McLoria and his bunch of crooks out of baseball, it would almost be worth it.

Considering all Loria is asking for in return is salary relief and bad players, Boston will happily take Stanton in exchange for Alfredo Aceves and Mauro Gomez. Loria is a jerk and a half, and he’s ruined baseball for that city.
