Kind of wished the Article was more like this:
_____________________________
Jason Bay to get Bonilla Treatment

In other news, the Mets have decided to defer outfielder Jason Bay's contract in 25 annual installments. Rather than pay the struggling outfielder 21 million dollars for the duration of his contract. The Mets will pay an annual payment of 4,247,154.61 from 2024-48. A baffling total of 106,178,865.25. This is oddly similar to what the Mets had done previously with struggling outfielder Bobby Bonilla. Rather than pay Bonilla 5.9 million, the Mets opted to pay him 25 installments of 1,193,248.20 from 2011-2025.

Bay had this to say, "I'm not as bad as Bobby Bonilla."

Although the stats tell a different story.

Bay: .165/.237/.299, -1.3 WAR, 47 OPS+
Bonilla: .160/.277/.303, -1.5 WAR, 49 OPS+

One has to wonder why this keeps happening to Mets and whether Steve Phillips has been rehired?

______________

That took a good amount of math.

Are you referring to incentives he could reach in a contract? Because why would anyone sign him to more than whatever the major league minimum is for a player with his service time? He's been injury plagued garbage for three straight years.

He couldn't possibly wear the same ski mask or carry the same gun when he signs his next deal.
