In joining the increasing number of teams to employ a pair of hitting coaches the Dodgers have hired John Valentin as their assistant hitting coach.

He’ll work alongside new hitting coach Mark McGwire, who left the Cardinals for the Dodgers last week.

Valentin retired as a player in 2002 following an 11-year career spent mostly with the Red Sox and has been coaching and managing the Dodgers’ farm system for the past six seasons.

and a miserable little twerp as a player…………Much like the man who unseated him at SS, Nomar, he enjoyed when the team was a dysfunctional mess than winning. Probably the first story I have seen about him in years that doesn’t have the words ‘broke’ or ‘bankruptcy’. Tried talk radio too in Boston and just used to try to big time the co hosts – the ‘nobody knows what they’re talking about except me because I played so you should just listen to me’ routine. Got canned from that gig too.

With all the fan favorite players returning as coaches, i was hoping we could give Valentin a look as hitting coach in Boston. I guess not.
