Absolutely spot on histor.. Gator there is clearly a critical tone (if not a banal one) to Randy’s comment. What on earth does speaking English have to do with playing baseball or even being in the US?
But kudos to Robbie nevertheless, we are better country for having you counted among us. Though those players who remain citizens of their home countries should absolutely not be criticized..

OG, he said “extremely nationalistic” and I don’t think anyone sees that as a compliment. Also, he seems to presume that speaking English is necessary for living here, which seems hostile to players from certain countries. True love for America — whatever that is — is not a requirement for playing baseball. It kills me when Staters have the nerve to accuse anyone else of nationalism.

I would kinda think the very definition of “nationalistic” is that they want to keep on being from where they’re from. I don’t see any disparagement in what Randy just wrote.

I don’t think so. If anything, he’ll get to stop paying any Dominican taxes. His status before was as a resident alien, and they are subject to the same taxes.

I think this says a lot about Robinson’s true love for America. Most foreign baseball players are extremely nationalistic. They play here and at seasons end, split to go home. Most never consider US citizenship. Heck, some never consider learning to speak English.
