Jeffrey Loria wasn’t in the mood to chat with reporters today

Nov 14, 2012, 2:20 PM EDT

Jeff Loria victory

One day after the Marlins’ latest firesale owner Jeffrey Loria showed up to the MLB owners’ meetings in Chicago and said the following when greeted in the lobby by a whole bunch of reporters:

Not today boys. You haven’t figured it out yet? I’m not going to figure it out for you.

What a prince.

  1. cosanostra71 - Nov 14, 2012 at 2:23 PM

    Loria sucks

    • thekcubrats - Nov 14, 2012 at 2:24 PM

There is no I in SCAM.

    • philliesblow - Nov 14, 2012 at 4:32 PM

      Selig swallows.

    • bigmeechy74 - Nov 15, 2012 at 10:07 PM

      I kinda like him…

  2. MotorCitySteel - Nov 14, 2012 at 2:30 PM

What a jerk! Is guy going to run for president next? He has all the credentials.

    • stevejeltzjehricurl - Nov 14, 2012 at 3:03 PM

Say what you will about him… unlike our politcal leaders, he can manage a budget.

      • jerze2387 - Nov 14, 2012 at 3:30 PM

yeah, the budget that lines HIS pockets

    • thinman61 - Nov 14, 2012 at 3:13 PM

  3. Ralph - Nov 14, 2012 at 2:33 PM

“You haven’t figured it out yet? I don’t give a sh*t about winning baseball games, the product I put out on the field, the taxpayers of Miami-Dade, or the players in the game. I’m here for one reason; to use this franchise as my personal bank account. Backlash be damned.” –Jeffrey Loria

    • indaburg - Nov 14, 2012 at 2:36 PM

Yep, that sounds about right. You figured it out.

  4. wetmorepsu12 - Nov 14, 2012 at 2:33 PM

I don’t think he’s figured it out yet either.

    • Ralph - Nov 14, 2012 at 2:41 PM

I disagree. I think he’s figured it out exceptionally well. He’s figured out exactly how the system is broken and the best ways to exploit it for his own personal gain. That said, he’s a complete cunt and an awful owner.

      • willclarkgameface - Nov 14, 2012 at 2:49 PM

I dig the vitriol. Keep bringing it.

      • cur68 - Nov 14, 2012 at 3:57 PM

Rage Suace™. New, for this latest crisis.

      • xmatt0926x - Nov 14, 2012 at 4:23 PM

        What Ralph just said….

  5. paperlions - Nov 14, 2012 at 2:46 PM

If you made a deal that guaranteed you an extra $100M+ in profits and required no effort on your part, wouldn’t you feel chatty? I would.

    • stex52 - Nov 14, 2012 at 2:56 PM

Do you suppose he was feeling touchy because he had other owners on his case? They do have an interest in Miami being a successful franchise. I’d like to think he is catching some grief.

      • paperlions - Nov 14, 2012 at 2:58 PM

Oh, I’m sure he is…he is literally killing that market, and every dead market affects the entire league….plus, he’s just set a fantastic example (about the 30th one) for why tax dollars should not be used to build stadiums/arenas….which can’t make owners in any league happy.

  6. stex52 - Nov 14, 2012 at 2:48 PM

………and then, waving his pitchfork in the air, he disappeared in a cloud of sulphurous smoke. Next time the reporters need to have their crosses, garlic and wooden stakes handy.

  7. losangelesfan - Nov 14, 2012 at 2:51 PM

Jeffrey Loria is a Poopy Head.

    • thinman61 - Nov 14, 2012 at 3:14 PM

      And a douchenozzle.

    • stlouis1baseball - Nov 14, 2012 at 3:44 PM

Jeffrey Loria is a Dumb Butt Poopy Head.

  8. heyblueyoustink - Nov 14, 2012 at 3:20 PM

I’ve figured it out: you and Scott Boras are related, ass clown.

    • purnellmeagrejr - Nov 15, 2012 at 8:18 AM

careful Mr. Loria you have done the unthinkable – not cooperating or, God forbid actuallly saying something negative about the people for whom the game is played – the SPortswriters. THey are more avid than cops when it comes to someone not playing along them.

  9. savocabol1 - Nov 14, 2012 at 3:48 PM

If there was any defense of this move it is this…..the team finished in LAST place with the players on their roster. What makes you think they were going to contend with a bunch of players that couldn’t get it done?

They got nothing in return but money relief. That part puzzles me.

    • Old Gator - Nov 14, 2012 at 5:48 PM

Then you either haven’t been paying attention, or you puzzle too easily.

  10. paperlions - Nov 14, 2012 at 3:58 PM

So…how long until the Rays move out of the state? No way are they getting even a nickel of tax payer money to build a stadium now…is there?

    • cur68 - Nov 14, 2012 at 4:03 PM

Move out of state…to Montreal? Right? Or, better yet, sell the Feesh to Montreal.

      • historiophiliac - Nov 14, 2012 at 7:35 PM

I thought you wanted Loria in Vancouver.

      • cur68 - Nov 14, 2012 at 7:38 PM

I want him hung by his thumbs

      • historiophiliac - Nov 14, 2012 at 7:42 PM

ha ha Did I make you throw up? Get Beaver Rage?

  11. onbucky96 - Nov 14, 2012 at 4:14 PM

Ugh. This guy makes Drew Rosehaus AND Scott Boras seem like good human beings. Btw Jeffy, Snotty Boras feels you don’t care about winng. Can we fill a small boat, bound for the next season of suvivor, with Jeff Loria, Drew Rosenhaus, Scott Boras, Donald Fehr, DeMaurice Smith, Gary Bettman, Tim Tebow, and Bill France Jr? They can call it Survivor: The Most Hated Ass Clowns in Sports. Bud, Roger, David, and Skip Bayless can take the next boat…

  12. trevorb06 - Nov 14, 2012 at 4:35 PM

Motion to rename the Douchenozzle Award to The Loria.

  13. markovellidadon - Nov 14, 2012 at 4:52 PM

Obviously Jeffrey Loria went to the Frank McCourt school of business.

    • Old Gator - Nov 14, 2012 at 5:50 PM

Not at all. Frank McCourt went broke. Scrooge McLoria is laughing all the way to the bank. If they went to the same school, Loria must have bought his crib sheets from someone who knew what they were doing.

  14. Chris Fiorentino - Nov 14, 2012 at 4:56 PM

And once again, can someone tell me why Mark Cuban can’t buy a baseball team when guys like McCourt and Loria continue to buy teams? I believe it’s because of Bud.

    • SOBEIT - Nov 14, 2012 at 5:41 PM

Actually I think it is the reverse of what everyone thinks. Cuban would actually be a really good owner, but a vocal one that has no problem calling out the league management on various issues…ie. Bud Selig would be brought to the mat and chewed out in public. Other owners know better. I think that is why Selig does not want Cuban.

Cuban has been much quieter lately than when he first got the Mavericks, but that fire would light up again once he owns a MLB team and learns the ins and outs of the league operations first hand. Selig likes the power and the obedient owners!

      • Old Gator - Nov 14, 2012 at 5:51 PM

Cuban has already said he has no interest in owning the Feesh, in a market with which he has no connections. He has expressed interest in the Cubs on several occasions.

      • SOBEIT - Nov 14, 2012 at 6:36 PM

Gator I agree…but I was just responding to the statement that Selig does not want Cuban as an owner of any baseball team…not if Cuban would consider taking over the Marlins. Cuban’s smart enough to want a franchise that has a loyal and LARGE baseball fan base. Cubs are one. There are many others. Unfortunately Miami is still football first, and basketball second…and baseball somewhere after jai a lai and dog racing…though the Heat are doing their best to move up in popularity.

There are many loyal baseball fans in Miami…just not enough of them to shell out the dough for 80 sellout games.

  15. Bruce Knutson - Nov 14, 2012 at 9:41 PM

The problem here is Selig not Loria. Selig let’s friends get away with anything. He is buddies with Loria and friends with the McCourts. Let’s realize the real problem here.

  16. mottershead1972 - Nov 14, 2012 at 10:44 PM

Lol, hang him by his thumbs, love it

  17. mottershead1972 - Nov 14, 2012 at 10:44 PM

You know, and they wonder why baseball is slipping in popularity…

  18. mottershead1972 - Nov 14, 2012 at 10:47 PM

Just playing devils advocate here… And don’t get me wrong the guys a douche… The Red Sox just did basically the same thing and were praised for the 1/4 Bill dollar salary dump.. And the dodgers were killed for spending mony like a drunk sailor.. Of course they did just trick the taxpayers into paying for a stadium…

  19. mojosmagic - Nov 14, 2012 at 11:13 PM

I like to figure out what $ store he got those sunglasses? Probably stole them.

  20. cereal blogger - Nov 15, 2012 at 8:40 AM

I dont blame Loria & the Marlins, they couldnt generate fan support despite spendng a boatload on a prolific manager & free agents in the first year of a new stadium. I’d cut payroll as well,,,it is a business you know.
